In 1917, Alice Paul died at home after suffering a stroke while playing tag with her children; she was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery nearby. In 1930, Henry Ford purchased land adjacent to Wirtz Hall from Wirtz Jr., which he used as his farmstead and later developed into Dearborn Heights subdivision (later renamed Riverbank). During World War II, Dearborn Heights served as an assembly center for military housing located just outside of town limits; many people from Riverbanks worked there during wartime. After the war ended, most residents left for various reasons; some returned while others moved away altogether because they found other opportunities more available or because they didn't want to live around so many factories that were polluting their environment daily. In recent decades, much property has been lost due to fire or farming practices that have resulted in extensive waterlogging; this led to problems with groundwater recharge over time and caused extensive damage to both Popple Creek Dam and Cascades Lake—the latter being dammed off portion of portions of town limits since its construction in 1911: these changes have made possible future development adjacent to Popple Creek Hydroelectric Power Plant without havingto worry about flooding issues again (due mostly to increased agricultural production).
