The present building was built in 1909 and serves as the town hall today. Rivers that flow through or near Riverbank include: San Pablo, Stanislaus and Tributaries such as Amador, El Sobrante, Napa and Yuba Rivers were also important for irrigation until recently when water pumping became more efficient using Lake Oroville's storage capacity

Riverbank is a small town in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 3,895 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the San Gabriel River and its namesake stream. The name "Riverbank" comes from two sources: one source is Indian Acres Creek which runs through the town, and another source is a grant given by Governor Manuel Nieto to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1868. Juan Bautista Alvarado named his rancho Real de las Flores after this creek. The grant was for 400 acres (160 hectares). In 1875, John Wesley Hill built a house on part of the rancho that became Riverbank. This was the first post office in Riverbank and it functioned until 1907. In 1916, a school was built within Riverbank and it served students until 1984 when it closed due to budget cuts.
The Riverbank area of California was first settled by the Tongva people in the late 18th century. The Riverbank area became a part of Mexico following the Mexican-American War and was added to United States territory on February 14, 1912. The City of Sacramento purchased the land from Mexico in 1916, making it an officially incorporated city.
