Ridgecrest is a small town in the Inland Empire of California. It is located on the edge of Los Angeles County, and is bordered by Pasadena to the north, Sylmar to the east, and North Hollywood to the south. The population was 10,693 at the 2010 census. Ridgecrest has a rich history dating back to 1887 when it was founded as an agricultural community on Rancho Palomar in what is now Mid-City Los Angeles. They named their new settlement after Mount Crested Butte which they saw from their rancho across the valley. By 1925, Laughlin had completely destroyed both villages with bulldozers while residents were inside their homes; only Alpine Village remains today as part of Shoreline Village development next door.)
