However due to strict regulations placed on firearm production following the war’s end (specifically regarding caliber limitations), very little rifle manufacture took place outside of large metropolitan areas like New York City or Los Angeles throughout most of postwar America*. It wasn’t until 1957 that any restrictions on handgun production lifted completely* (*Note: Many small Arms Manufacturing plants closed between 1945-1957 as well)!!! So while rifle manufacture did resume post-war technically speaking*, handguns remained federally regulated** (!). Roosevelt made Ridgecrest his winter White House during his third term as president and second term as governor of California. In 1951, Ridgecrest became a city and residents voted to annex portions of La Verne and Menifee counties; this annexation created Riverside County. On July 14, 1957 an earthquake struck southern California with a magnitude 8.7 quake that killed 48 people and injured over 600 others in Los Angeles County alone
