Ridgecrest is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. It is located on the central coast of the county, about southeast of Bakersfield and northwest of Salinas. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. Ridgecrest is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first mention of Ridgecrest was in 1879 when it was part of Rancho San Luis Rey land grant to José Torres and others. In 1881, an ad for a post office in Ridgecrest advertised "a pretty little station on the Central Pacific Railroad". The name later changed to Ridgecrest and it became a ghost town after being destroyed by fire in 1907. By 1912, most residents had left for various reasons including World War I munitions production at nearby Pahrump; however, some remain until this day as ghosts who can be seen walking around or lurking behind homes. On July 20th 1909 three prospectors named Ellington, Wheeler and Oldham discovered rich gold veins near present-day Crestline Boulevard (then called Donner Pass Road). They named their discovery "Ridgecrest" after then-President Grover Cleveland's home state of New York City – although they were never able to find any gold there! A post office opened at Ridgecress on November 3rd 1910 under the name Ofeyville because no one could seem to get mail from that address! Mail continued to come from Ofeyville until 1923 when construction began on Interstate 5 which bypassed Ridgecrest altogether. In 1916 two sisters by the name of Eddy bought 2 acres adjoining what is now eastbound US 101 south of ridge crest just west of Vallejo Valley Road (now CR 621) for $2 per acre with hopes that they could create a small community there which would serve as both agricultural marketing center for their farmsteads north and east of VALLEJO VALLEY ROAD while also serving as transportation crossing point between those valleys and downtown LA! Although originally plans called for only single family housing developments with names such as “Edwards” & “Dunn” still remain standing today along what are now known as Vallejo Valley Rd.,commercial development soon followed with several stores/entertainment areas becoming reality such as The Crestline Cafe (& Pub), First National Bank (now Wells Fargo), numerous residences & businesses over time making it one continuous community despite changes within its borders! Today we continue to experience many hauntings here in our tiny town dating back centuries including sightings OF MANY GHOSTS FROM THE DAY BEFORE OUR COLLISION WITH I-5!!!
