By 1970, Chiappa Firearms had taken over manufacturing duties for Citizens' Hats Inc.. In 1979, Chiappa Firearms Corporation merged with United Defense Industries to form United Brands LLC.. In 1990, United Brands LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.. On December 12th of that year, United Brands LLC announced it would be selling its assets to Chiappa Firearms Corporation for $2 million cash plus warrants to produce additional firearms hats beginning in 1991.. Over time there have been numerous modifications to firearmhat design but ultimately the basic concept remains: A head covering device that provides warmth and comfort while wearing a firearm costume or wig while attending an event or parade
