In 1942, Steiner-Leybold merged with Seiko Kogyo Co., Ltd. to form Japan's largest optical manufacturer at that time. From then on, Ridgecrest Binoculars production continued uninterrupted until 1995 when the company merging into Fuji TV corporation which also produced television sets

Ridgecrest is a small town in Kern County, California, located on the banks of the San Joaquin River. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. Ridgecrest is one of the oldest towns in Kern County and has been around for over eighty years. Ridgecrest was founded by white settlers in 1877 as a small agricultural community on a high bluff overlooking the river. The original name of the settlement was "Baldwin", after Captain John Baldwin who surveyed and claimed Rancho Nueces south of here in 1836. The first post office in Ridgecrest opened in 1879 and remained open until it closed under federal government patronage in 1893. In 1907, Ridgecrest became an incorporated town with a mayor and four council members. The first postmaster was Wm Halsey Smith; he served from 1907 to 1912. From 1912 to 1916, Wm Fenton served as postmaster; thereafter mail service was provided by stagecoach drivers coming through town on their way to other parts of Kern County or Sacramento. In 1915, when they merged with neighboring Tecate, all but two residents of Ridgecrest petitioned to become part of that city because they felt they were treated unfairly by their previous municipal officials (the remaining residents refused incorporation). Ultimately only 11 residents voted against incorporation into Tecate while 201 votes were cast for it- making Ridgecress one of the most successful mergers ever accomplished within Kern County's borders. Theodore Roosevelt visited this small town during his visit to California in 1909 ernest hoover also made an appearance hereabouts during his 1914 campaign for governor which ended up being his last official stop before he entered politics permanently
