Pistol slings were originally made from either animal skin or cloth straps passed through a hole in the back of a container and then fastened around one’s waist using leather thongs or belts. The weapon would be balanced on this makeshift platform and fired by pulling back on the strap until it was tight against one’s shoulder! This method was very difficult to use outdoors and required good aim if attempted at close range; however, pistols were still very effective at short ranges thanks to their slow speed compared to other weapons. Rifle Slings The rifle sling originated in Europe in the 16th century AD when rifles began becoming more popular among military units across Europe. Rifle slings were originally designed for use with bows but soon became useful for carrying rifles as well.
