Richmond, California is home to one of the most firearm-friendly cities in the United States. Gun parts history begins with its incorporation as a city in 1847 and continues through today's firearms industry. Richmond was founded on December 12, 1847 by an act of the City Council. The original site of Richmond was on the east side of Point Isabelle, just across the river from San Francisco. The land for Richmond was purchased by James J. Brodie from John Burton for $2,000 ($122,000 in 2018 dollars). On July 16, 1850, Richmond became part of Contra Costa County and began to receive mail from Sacramento via stagecoach. The first gun parts company in Richmond were two men named Gifford and Wigglesworth who had a store at 7th and Market Streets. Gifford & Wigglesworth manufactured pistols and revolvers under the name "D&W Pistol Company." In 1858 they opened a second store at 5th and I streets (now known as Monument Square), which continued to be their business until 1860 when they moved out west to 9th Street between Second and Third Streets because there was no space at 5th Street. In 1861 they merged with another guns company called Smith & Wesson which operated out of what is now Tingley Park subdivision on North Los Angeles Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue in south central Los Angeles County In 1865 Gifford & Wigglesworth were forced to sell their entire business due to prohibition laws that were being enacted in many American cities at that time including Richmond. From 1865 until 1870 they produced shotguns only; however this production stopped due to increased competition from Winchester Repeating Arms Company who had started producing shotgun shells soon after Gifford & Wigglesworth left town In 1870 J&J Brodie reopened his old store at Seventh Street between Broadwalk and Market Place opposite Folsom Prison where he also sold ammunition Brodie Semper Fi Ammunition Manufacturing Company was formed during this time with twelve employees manufacturing high quality rounds such as .22 LR ammo Eventually Brodie Semper Fi Ammo Manufacturing Company became part of Browning Firearms Corporation which still manufactures quality rounds today

Polk established Yokuts Indian Colony near Richmond to provide settlers with food for their gold mining claims. In 1850, American Civil War veteran Jens Wilhelmsson settled at what are now Hearst Castle and Springvale farms west of town on Novato Creek. By 1860, most of northern Contra Costa County had been taken up by ranching operations, leaving only eastern Contra Costa County for development. In 1863, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to attack Union forces advancing through Berkeley Heights during the Battle of Appomattox Court House; this event led to increased concern among local officials about possible hostilities between Northern Californians and Rebels should they succeed in taking Richmond by storm. On April 12th 1865, just prior to Union forces withdrawing from Richmond following the surrender of General Robert Ewell at Appomattox Court House, Confederate General Jubal Early crossed into Contra Costa County from Sonoma County without battle or notice to its citizens; many interpreted this act as an attempt by Early to establish a new Confederate regime within California instead of going southwardInto Mexico under Ulysses S Grant
