Gun chokes were a common means of restraining someone by holding them at gunpoint. They were usually made from a piece of leather, sometimes with a metal band, that was put around the person's neck and then tightened until the victim couldn't breathe.

Rialto is a small town in Northern California, located on the banks of the San Joaquin River. It was founded in 1872 by John C. Fremont and his wife, Mary. The Fremont family ran a mill here until it was destroyed by fire in 1906. Rialto's first post office, established in 1876, handled mail from nearby Stockton. In 1913, the name of the post office changed to Rialto after its founder, James Waddell Rialto. The town grew rapidly during World War II as munitions plants were built here and jobs were generated for local workers at those plants. By 1970, however, most of the mills had closed and the population had shrunk to around 1,000. Today, only a few buildings remain from when Rialto was an important center for industry and commerce.

Rialto is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 5,858 at the 2010 census. It is one of the oldest towns in this area and has been around since 1852 when it was part of Captain John C. Fremont's Rancho Niguel. The first post office in Rialto opened on January 17, 1852. In 1865, the town became a dry county and no mail service was available to residents other than by horse and buggy. In 1887, water began providing electricity for lights and streetlights; however, due to high expenses incurred by outset investors, incorporation failed in 1898. In 1907-1908 an attempt was made to open a large packing plant east of town but this also failed because of lack of business interest from within the community or outside investors who were interested in developing the plant site into a larger commercial center with manufacturing opportunities for their products. A new mill started up again in 1951 as Hormel Foods Corporation (now Tyson Foods) plants were built near Riverside and Corona counties respectively during that time period fueled by increased demand for beef cattle due to changes occurring throughout America such as World War II which resulted in an increase demand for meat products across America which led to higher prices for feedstocks like corn so ranchers turned to farming instead of livestock production while farmers throughout California shifted from growing rice and beans back to corn after they realized there would be more money available if they could get grain out there at a lower price point. In 1967-1968 when Interstate 15 crossed over into Rialto—the last time it did so before becoming I-5—the number of residents decreased from 736 (1960) down until it reached its current numbers 911 as motor vehicles stopped using the road instead coming down off I-15 onto Townsend Avenue which served as access road leading into town from all directions including Northgate Drive heading northeast out towards Ontario Airport then turning southeast towards Rialto where it terminated at Main Street just inside town limits on what is now University Avenue although part of that alignment had been used since before that date along with some residential streets adjacent thereto having been named after early mayors/mayors such as Wm. Davenport (1886–1900), Fenton Matson (1904–1907), Wm Jordon Post (1914–1920), Addison Prideaux Wilder (1920–1925).
Rialto was founded in 1875 by Hiram S. Gilbert, a California entrepreneur and banker. The city's first hotel, the Rialto Palace, opened in 1876. In 1886, Gilbert built the first air-conditioned building in California. A year later, he founded the Santa Clara Valley Water District to provide water to the city and surrounding rural areas.
