Reedley is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 11,798 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by Mormons who had arrived from Utah. In 1898, Reedley became an incorporated city and in 1912 it annexed part of Fresno. The first firearms to be used in the American Revolution were pistols made byDriggs and Whitney of Philadelphia. They had been imported into the colonies as early as 1676. On July 4th 1775, George Washington committed suicide with a pistol he had procured from Driggs and Whitney. One hundred years later on July 4th 1911, Clarence Darrow took his final Stand before the US Supreme Court with anassault rifle he bought new from S&W Arms Company of Chicago Illinois just after their introduction into service for that year’s World’s Fair in New York City In 1915 when Reedley consolidated with Fresno it acquired its current name which is still applied today: “Reedley – A Town That Means Something To Us”

It is the second-largest city in Contra Costa County after Walnut Creek and the fifth-largest city east of San Francisco. The name Reedley may be derived from two original settlers: John Reed (1812–1886) who arrived in 1847 and Samuel A. Reed (1822–1892). The first post office called Reedley was established in 1851, and the first settler in what is today Reedley was Samuel A. Reed. In 1875, a group of farmers named themselves the "Citizens' Committee to Make Improvements" because they desired to improve their town site. They laid out a block square with small shops on it which became known as "Reed's Row". This business district continued until 1978 when all businesses were consolidated into one large building on Main Street which still stands today - now home to many different businesses including Macy's Department Store and Ford dealership. Reedley began as an agricultural community with orchards and vineyards that produced fruits such as apples, grapes, pears, plums, olives and apricots; but by 1920 this had grown to include housing developments for professionals such as dentists, physicians and engineers; light industrial production by local companies like Mead Johnson Products; a wide variety of retail stores; parks including Nature Preserve Park south of town on Highway 20 near Concord River; and significant acreage devoted to agriculture - most notably an orchard that continues to produce fruit today (the Orchard Health nursery). Today much of these older housing developments have been replaced by more recent built homes although some remain unoccupied due to changing needs or lack thereof among residents over time. Today there are many restaurants within walking distance of downtown where visitors can enjoy cultural events like Shakespeare in the Park performances or music concerts during summer months while also enjoying views of Contra Costa county countryside from many homes across town center yards. The river forms much of the town's natural boundaries, with several miles of waterline that are still generally unmarked today despite substantial development over time: most notably Interstate 5 which runs through downtown Reedley to the south; State Route 158 running parallel to I-5 east-west; and numerous smaller streets running between these two highways as well as between individual business districts in different directions. Reedley has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen "Cfa"). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Reedley has a hot desert climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps due to high summertime temperatures exceeding 40°F (4°C). Precipitation averages during summer months totals around 12 inches (300 mm), while winter sees only 1–2 inches (25–50 mm) total rainfall annually - making it one of the driest places in California outside East L.A., where snow falls regularly throughout winter even though highs average around 30°F (−3°C). Despite this lack of precipitation however, summers are often warm enough for swimming or sunbathing despite what could be considered moderate weather conditions elsewhere in California!
