Redondo Village is one of two townships that make up Redondo Beach - one occupies parts of present day NorthEast San Pedro while another portion lies between Santa Monica Boulevard/UCLA Avenue East and First Street/Beach Road South; both townships are part of Orange County but are administratively separate from Redondo beach proper . The town boundaries were extended further inland towards Balboa Peninsula after World War II when developers created new residential areas for Naval personnel stationed at Ladd Air Force Base (& adjacent Canoga Park) during WWII . These areas were originally just called Rancho Mirage until someone realized there was no ocean view from those neighborhoods - only sand! And so they changed it back to Rancho Mirage... again! Anyway - redONDOdeans believe strongly that if we want our community to be successful we need to keep things together even inside our own townshIP .. otherwise all bets are off !

The first settler in Redondo Beach, John Lovell, arrived in 1894 and built a small cabin near present day North Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. The early years of Redondo Beach were difficult because of the lack of transportation to the area from outside of California. In 1916, entrepreneur Harry Kapp donated 5 acres (20,000 m²) north of Pacific Coast Highway to help pay for a network of arterial roads that would connect Redondo Beach with Venice and other parts of Southern California. This donation is now known as Kapp Park. In 1922, inventor Ernest Hildebrandt developed what is now known as the Hildebrandt Drive system which allowed cars to be driven coast to coast without needing to stop at gas stations or carhops
