However, later investigations revealed that lead bullet fragments can cause serious physical harm if they are struck by bone marrow cells while healing following surgery or radiation therapy…. As a result of these findings ammunition manufacturers reverted back to copper-based rounds once again beginning in 1957 until present day (see table 1).

After World War II ended, Redondo beach continued to grow rapidly with many new residents moving into the area including many Japanese Americans who had been interned during WWII at nearby Imperial Marine Base Camp Shafter.
