In 1892, John Browning developed the Browning Hi-Power airgun, which was the first air gun that could be fired from stock. This gun was able to shoot up to seventy-five rounds per minute! The popularity of these early guns caused manufacturers to start making more advanced airguns such as the Thompson submachine gun and the M1 Garand rifle. In 1934, John Browning decided to sell his company to Remington Arms Company, which made all of the later versions of the Hi-Power and .30 caliber rifles that we know today.

The first inhabitants of the area were Native American people who called it Wah Wah. A Wave HillMission was built in 1907 and contains a replica of the USS Constitution which is on display at the nearby Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. In 1912, The City of Redondo Beach was formed from parts of Huntington Beach and Rialto. In 1919, Don Hynes, an Australian immigrant and entrepreneur founded Redondo Mills Limited which produced textiles including blue jeans and T-shirts for United States soldiers during World War I. In 1926, Harry Heineman opened his donut shop at 95th Street and Alvarado Avenue. By 1933 there were over 20 businesses in Redondo Beach with a population of 1,500 people. During World War II many businesses closed but many others like Heineman’s continue to operate until the late 1960s when they merged into one large company Arthur Andersen LLP which remains headquartered here to this day. From 1945-1948 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor leaving much destruction in their wake; this led to increased military activity in Southern California as well as increased tourism that helped fuel both industries. After World War II ended there was a lull in business until 1969 when Arthur Andersen LLP merged with Peet’s Coffee Corporation creating Peet’s Incorporated followed by Kmart Supermarkets division charting its course towards becoming one of America's largest retail companies after opening more than 3,000 stores across North America by 1990 alone! Since then things have only gotten better for Redondo Beach with major developments such as The Wharf District being built around downtown while new housing projects are ongoing such as East Village located just east of town center - home to some world class restaurants and nightlife along with warehouses that have been converted into luxury condos/apartments/hotels etc...the list goes on! Some may say that it all amounts to one big success story but really it's just another example of how innovation can help spur growth even when faced with seemingly impossible odds!
