Post-Gold Rush times were difficult for Redland because it lost much of its economic importance due to competition from other towns within easy reach of San Bernardino County such as Riverside or Castaic Valley. However, thanks to various philanthropic donations from individuals and organizations such as the Sutter family estate which donated land near present day Downtown Redlands for use as open space ,redlanders experienced significant growth during this time period . strides were made including building schools such as Central High School in 1892 which helped improve education opportunities for locals ; creating parks such as Sierra Park in 1902 which attracted people who loved nature; developing industries including breweries & distilleries beginning around 1906;and establishing professional sports teams starting with baseball in 1903 This period saw major changes with regards to social attitudes towards women ,racism&amnesty movementT signficant change during this time also came about when automobiles became available making transportation more accessible Additionally advancements were made with regards to healthcare thanks largely to advances being made by Drs Samuel Gompers & Edward Doheny at Mather Hospital later renamed Kaiser Permanente Medical Center further enhancing healthcare options available for those living within walking distance of downtown . post war reconstruction efforts brought many jobs back into town while also providing financial stability through government funding At same time there was some opposition against these sorts of developments given that they threatened traditional values held dear by many residents . however progress was eventually made culminating with formation of City Councilman position effective January 1st 1907 amid heavy public resistance
