Redding is a city in Northern California, located on the Atascadero River. The population was 54,665 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in San Bernardino County and its second largest municipality by area after Riverside. Redding was founded by American settlers in 1864 as an agricultural town on Rancho Santa Ana de las Dos Amigas, about 12 miles (19 km) upstream from present-day Redding. In 1872, Redding became an incorporated city and adopted its current name of Redding City on July 1, 1872. Redding has been home to many famous people including Hollywood star Clark Gable and musician Joe Bonamassa. The city's economy has grown rapidly since it joined the United States government during World War II as one ofits primary sites for military production. Today, Redding is a major center for technology and aerospace businesses with large plants devoted to aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, electric vehicles and other industries.

The Redding Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892 by two men who were interested in the shooting of firearms. The club met monthly at a local bar for target practice, until it moved to its current location in 1903. The original rifle range was located on Main Street in Redding, and shooting continued at the nearby First National Bank building until 1934. In that year, the bank closed its doors and shooting stopped as a result. In 1948, the club moved to their current location on 2nd Street across from the city hall. After years of developing new ranges and facilities, they opened an indoor pistol range in 1984 which still meets today’s standards. In 2006 they also opened an outdoor range which is now one of the largest open air ranges in Northern California.

Additionally, the town ran an annual sheep show from 1933-1989 which is now known as the Redding Agricultural Show
