ALPJ rented space at the Western Gun Shop until it moved to its own location on Huntington Avenue in 1912. In 1915, local businessman Harry Sargent purchased the Western Gun Shop and set up shop inside what is now JW Marriott Hotel – one of Redding’s most distinguishing landmarks today! At this time, gun magazines were an essential part of any military or law enforcement officer’s arsenal! Sargent continued to operate his business until his death in 1951. In 1976, he bequeathed his assets (including his pistol range) to Redding High School for use as a shooting range and museum! Today, JW Marriott Hotel still features a building dedicated to Sargent that houses both businesses!
