The Adobe was built in 1848 by Antonio Vallejo as part of his Rancho Los Capistrano Rey campaign to gain entry into Californias new statehood. Red Bluff became an agricultural center due to its location on fertile soil which could be used for farming, ranching, and mining; businesses soon started up around this area such as The post office, a hotel, and a sawmill which still operates today. In 1906 Red Bluff became one of only two communities in California that were given their own newspaper - the other being Riverside (later known as San Bernardino). In 1941 it lost its water supply until 1965 when they reopened it with modern technology; this event helped keep Red Bluff alive through difficult times like floods, fires, and changing economy

Red Bluff, California is a small town located in the Mono County area of central California in the United States. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. It is part of Mono County. Red Bluff is located on the east side of beautiful Butte Creek, and offers lovely views of both Butte and Yosemite National Parks from its wide streets and civic center. It's also home to many local businesses and restaurants, as well as a few schools - Red Bluff Elementary School being one notable exception. The first people to live in this area were Native Americans who hunted game here. In 1849, prospectors discovered gold here but it wasn't until 1852 when an American built a cabin on Butte Creek that mining began again in earnest. A mill was built soon after to supply gold seekers with flour for baking goods and other needs, but it went out of business by 1861 because there wasn't enough gold available to justify such an expensive operation. In 1898, Gold Rush fever had begun to spread throughout much of Northern California due to tales about rich veins hidden under the dry dirt surface around Red Bluff (and nearby Mariposa). By 1899 there were over 50 mines operating in Mono County alone; plus more than 20 others scattered throughout Kern and Yuba Counties as well! With so many men working so hard (and making so little money), some residents developed what can only be called "the town-gown" lifestyle: they ate what they grew or caught (or even collected) within their own communities, wore their clothes made locally from whatever materials they could find, stayed indoors all day long if possible (to avoid dust storms), preached Christianity while living according to Native American beliefs...it was pretty much any way possible to make a buck during those days! It didn't take long for things started getting out of hand: prostitution became rampant thanks partly to demand from miners for prostitutes brought downriver by boatloads; drunkenness quickly followed suit; crime increased AS THE VALUE OF GOLD INCREASED AND MORE MINERS MOVED INTO THE AREA TO COLLECT IT; SCHOOLS FALL OUT OF BUSINESS AS MONEY GATTLES PREVAIL OVER EDUCATION; AND most importantly: PEOPLE ARRIVING HERE WERE NOT FAMILY MEMBERS BUT MADE THEIR OWN WAY IN LIFE BY GETTING INVOLVED IN CRIME AND MISERY! Asmining dwindled away until finally it stopped completely with the last big strike being done in 1911...just before World War I started!! All these years later we still hear stories about how richGold may have been found had it not been for those darned war efforts!!!
Red Bluff was founded by Captain John Sutter in 1849 as an agricultural district near the present-day city of Red Bluff. The first post office at Red Bluff was established in 1850. In 1860, the town was renamed for General Mariano Pico, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. The first school in Red Bluff opened in 1861.
