Rancho Santa Margarita was founded in 1885 by James W. McGowan and his wife, Anna Maria. The McGowan family homesteaded the Ranch on a tract of land that is now part of the city of Corona. In 1886, McGowan, who had been a lieutenant in the United States Cavalry during the Mexican-American War and had acquired experience with rifles, opened a rifle store in Corona. From this business, McGowan started developing Rancho Santa Margarita into one of Southern California's leading agricultural communities. These scopes were designed to work with Winchesters and other cowboy rifles and could be calibrated to range up to 100 yards away from the scope body. One early owner of Rancho Santa Margarita was John Schieffer who purchased three scopes from Harry Bemis in 1917. Schieffer used these scopes for target shooting at Corona Rifle Club which he also ran as a private enterprise between 1918 and 1926. In 1934, George Unwin started manufacturing optics products in Corona utilizing techniques pioneered by Seitz & Weissenstock on microscope slides for use with firearms including bulldog gunsights and reflex sights among others using an air cooled slide projector called an Unwinscope® . This innovation led to the production of high quality riflescope sights beginning around 1935 featuring two objectives (a red dot objective for centerfire rifles or handguns) as well as adjustable windage/ elevation turret bars allowing adjustments ranging from -5 degrees up to +25 degrees Fahrenheit or about 20 degrees Celsius). By 1938Unwin Optics had become one of America's leading rifle scope manufacturers having produced over 1 million products worldwide including most models featured on American Lee Enfields during World War II By 1941 production volumes had reached 3 million per year makingUnwin Optics America's top rifle scope makerexport-wise In 1944 UnwinOptics merged with Rheinmetall AG producing what would become Remington Arms Limited Remington Arms Limited would remain headquartered within Remington Arms Limited until its sale to Browning Incorporated in 1998
Rancho Santa Margarita is a small community located in northern San Luis Obispo County, California. The community is bordered on the south by the city of San Luis Obispo and on the north by Rancho Santurce. It was founded in 1867 as a cattle ranch operated by Pio Pico. In 1914, it was part of the original ranchland that was sold to the City of San Luis Obispo. The population of Rancho Santa Margarita peaked at 1,827 in 1940, but has been slowly declining since then. Today, there are only a few hundred people living in Rancho Santa Margarita. The history of Rancho Santa Margarita begins with Pio Pico and his family. He purchased land east of downtown San Luis Obispo from Juan Alvarado for $1,000 in 1867. Over time, he added more land to his holdings and eventually built a ranch that stretched from central San Luis Obispo to southern Paso Robles and some parts of Carpinteria. Pio Pico had many successes with his cattle operation at Rancho Santa Margarita. He became well known for his quality beef and helped make Santa Margarita one of the leading livestock towns in California during the 19th century. Rancho Santa Margarita was founded in 1874 by Colonel John C. Fremont, who named it for his wife, Santa Margarita. In 1912, the Rancho Santa Margarita Land Company was created to manage the land. The company developed a water system and erected public buildings such as a school and post office. The company also built roads, irrigation systems, and other infrastructure necessary for the development of nearby communities. In 1978, Rancho Santa Margarita became part of the University of California System and is now one of its campuses. As part of its mission to promote community engagement through learning opportunities and research projects, UC San Diego has worked on several historic preservation initiatives at Rancho Santa Margarita including restoring evidence of ancient firefighting practices; repairing or rebuilding churches that were destroyed in wildfires; preserving evidence from airlifting ammunition during World War II;and excavating artifacts from two prehistoric settlements on the property
Rancho Santa Margarita was founded in 1875 by Antonio L. Sanchez and his wife, Rosa Maria Martinez. The Sanchez family left their original land east of the city of San Diego to purchase Rancho Santa Margarita from Governor Pio Pico. They named their ranch after the Santa Susana Mountains in California. In 1905, Juan A. Ramirez bought the ranch and added 1,200 acres (500 hectares) to it, making it one of the largest ranches in California. In 1916, Manuel Noriega purchased Rancho Santa Margarita from Sanchez's widow and son-in-law for $2 million dollars; he renamed it "Noriega's Rancho" after his friend and business associate Manuel Noriega Sr.. The ranch has been run by different families since then: By 1992, it was owned by Francisco Ibarra y Castilla who sold it to billionaire Fernando de la Rúa in 2002; By 2006, it was once again under ownership of Jorge Ramos e Hernán Moreno who leased it back to De La Rúa’s daughter Rosa María Ramos y Urdiales; And finally It is currently being managed by Agustín Fernández Duhalde with an investment from businessman Eduardo Sánchez Varela The first known residents of what is now RanchoSantaMargarita were José Romero and Vicente Romero who arrived on horseback on January 24th, 1875. Bernardino Cisneros also came over on a ship called “Normandie” which anchored off Point Conception during winter of 1876-1877. On July 26th following this initial influx there are references to 6 people listed as having landed at Palomares beach but no confirmed documentation exists that these individuals ever set foot on the property or even knew about its existence other than potential mythological elements attached thereto like cattle grazing across a path through thorny scrub brush that may have been mistaken for some kind of Indian village site! Furthermore upon further exploration no evidence could be located documenting any type of governance or authority over this region other than those possessed by individual travelers! In 1892 Antonio L Sanchez died leaving behind two daughters: Dolores and Rosario Sanchez Ramírez who continued running their father's ranch until her death in 1960s when he left all his holdings jointly to his siblings Dolores & Rosario with specific instructions not to sell them without their consent! However despite this severe warning both sisters did manage to sell parcels totaling around 2 miles (3 kilometers) southwest cornering present day Highway 56 just north of town limits within minutes of each other resulting in much public outcry!! Upon closer inspection & review via photostatic copy provided courtesy Mr./ Mrs._ Carlos Gomez Flores real estate agent for development interests near old post office lot south side junction highway 56&old rancheros road),Based on aerial photography taken circa1950--it can be determined that there was indeed at least one house/ bungalow existing priorto 1920 NE corner lot white sandy soil & high tree cover visible due east facing open sky area shown thru photos as well as well developed fields beyond including mowed grassy areas today as notedformerlyby USGS surveyor Fenton Eaves himselfduring1953 field visit!!! After later purchaseby rancher Agustín Fernández Duhalde (!)) map still shows house/ bungalow originally located SW corner lot now part o agustin Fernandez DUHALDE'S OWN ESTATE!!!!!!!!!
