In 1887, Californians acquired 1,500 acres of land east of San Francisco Bay in what is now downtown Santa Clara County. At this time, there were few obstacles between farmers living near nature and hunters looking for game along the bay shoreline. In 1903, George Hennepin opened his grocery store at 339 Estero Ave., which would become one of Santa Clara County’s most important businesses. His store provided an important link between farmers and hunters who frequented his preserve while hunting bream or catfish off Point Reyes National Seashore. In 1907, Dickenson Manufacturing Co., Ltd., moved its operations from Oakland to Santa Clara County after purchasing Hennepin’s business assets.Dickenson Manufacturing produced firearms including pistols, shotguns, rifles (including bolt action rifles), revolvers, rifle grenades (1911), machineguns (1918), handguns (1925) – all under license from Ransom & Company Incorporated in New York City’s Times Square Armory where they served as models for Hollywood movie stars such as Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Clark Gable, Mary Pickford

Rancho Palos Verdes, California is a small town located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It lies on the southeastern border of Pasadena and is bordered by Monterey Park to the east and La Crescenta to the west. The population was 66,031 at the 2010 census. Rancho Palos Verdes is one of Santa Clarita's original towns and has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two hundred years. In 1887, Colonel John Montgomery purchased Rancho Palos Verdes from José Cuellar for $6,000. The land was originally part of Rancho San Antonio del Norte which was sold to Colonel Montgomery in 1828. After his death in 1892, his wife inherited the land and continued to run it as a cattle ranch until her death in 1935. Today, much of Rancho Palos Verdes' history can be found through its many historical buildings and museums that are open to the public. The town started out as a small community near what is now OrangeWalk Boulevard and Monterey Road. In 1890 there were just five residents living in what is now Rancho Palos Verdes proper; four men and one woman who farmed their own land around Mount Wilson Farmstead on top of Hacienda de las Huertas (now known as Mount Wilson Village). The community grew rapidly after incorporation into Pasadena when streets were laid out and businesses opened up nearby such as Mrs. Cook's Bakery & Cafeteria, Mr. Kapp's Pharmacy, Drury Drug Store, Guggenheim Gallery & Auction House (later Jiffy Lube), Sears & Roebuck Department store #1 (later Pabst Brewery), Ohlone Indian Schoolhouse ( later Hollywood High School), new post office (#2) and yesteryear's movie theater Block B – all within walking distance of each other! In 1912 another resident moved into what became Rancho Palos Verdes proper: Wm Fenton Chaney who ran a grocery store adjacent to his home on Prospect Avenue called "Fenton’s". One year later they built their first school - an Ohlone schoolhouse which served students from Huntington Beach until 1915 when it burned down during earthquake damage caused by an event known locally as “The Great quake” that struck Southern California at 6:8 p.m., November 7th 1905(). A new Ohlone schoolhouse was constructed on Blue Jay Drive near present-day Union Station in 1916 with classes starting again at 8am on Monday mornings immediately following earthquakes Ash Wednesday services which had previously been held at Mission Dolores Cemetery due to fear thating landslides would occur should graves be disturbed during this time period resulting in loss or destruction of cultural artifacts withinohlone communities throughout Southern California!!! With so much happening close by soon after incorporation some local citizens decided to establish themselves somewhat away from things like social events/leisure activities being held right next door including Butte View Hotel owner Harry Cohn who bought 10 acres north of Highway 99 northwest side lot RD 573

The Rancho Palos Verdes rancho was located on the eastern side of San Luis Obispo County, California. It was originally founded in 1853 by Juan Bautista de Anza and his brother-in-law, Manuel Nieto. The original land grant included 8,500 acres (3 km²). The Rancho Palos Verdes estate continued to be owned and operated by the Anzas until 1916. In 1916, it passed to their son John D. Anzaldua. He sold it in 1922 to Harry Chandler Jr., who then subdivided it into parcels for development. In 1951, the United States Atomic Energy Commission bought 320 acres (12 ha) of the Rancho Palos Verdes estate from Harry Chandler Jr., creating what is now known as Hanford Site No. 2 in order to manufacture plutonium for American atomic weapons tests conducted at Los Alamos National Laboratory between 1945 and 1954. The site has been a key location for chemical processing and other industrial activities ever since. Today, much of the remaining Rancho Palos Verdes estate remains open farmland used for grazing animals and other agricultural purposes; however, portions are also leased or rented out for commercial use or are in various stages of redevelopment as part of larger community projects such as Hanford Site No. 2 National Monument
Rancho Palos Verdes was a Rancho given to the Earls of Stockton in 1849. The land extended from present-day Hawthorne Boulevard on the east side of Palos Verdes Peninsula, south to what is now western Santa Clara County, and included parts of today's Los Altos Hills, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and East Palo Alto. The original 10 acres (4 ha) were part of a grant having been made by Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado to José Nieto in 1795. In 1809 it was sold to Pablo de la Torre y Martinez for $2,500. At first the land used for pasture and sheep raising but later became known for its fruit orchards and vineyards.
