Rancho Palos Verdes, California is known for its pristine beaches and rolling hills. The town of Rancho Palos Verdes was founded in 1887 by Capt. George A. Smith and his wife, Emma. The area now known as Rancho Palos Verdes was developed specifically for the purpose of producing wine. One of the most important firearms sights in Rancho Palos Verdes history was the Ginty Rifle Sight, which became operational on December 1, 1903. Designed and built by Samuel Ginty and brothers William and John Ginty, this rifle sight consisted of a cylindrical lens located at the rear of a tripod-mounted aiming platform that could be rotated to provide variable magnification for different types of rifles including muzzleloaders, shotguns, pistols and machine guns. The first use of the Ginty Rifle Sight took place on February 12th, 1904 when Capt. George A Smith used it to win a steel match against Lt Col Phil Sheridan at Exposition Park in Los Angeles. The rifle sight proved so successful that it quickly became standard equipment on Ulysses S Grant’s personal arsenal during World War I. After World War I ended, the Ginty Rifle Sight fell out of favor with many gun owners because they were not as accurate with modern ammunition as they had been with older North American type bullets dating back to 1851 when Captain James Fenton designed his original .50 caliber rifle barrel breechloader which utilized “broomstick” powder charges detonated by triggers from carbines firing downrange over open country canalside battlefields during operations like “Charge Over Marker” or “Halt At Bushwacker” campaigns against Native Americans using wide-angle objectives called Monogrammed Glasses (later designated Telescope sights). After America entered World War II both ends decided to copy Germany's Vetterli Gunsight design utilizing flat disk mirrors instead of broomsstick projectiles affording increased accuracy while reducing weight since rifles would carry more ammunition these days without having to lug around an extra targetting mirror/tube combination unit/gunsight system/baseplate! Today one can find various types PZH models made especially for high power sniper rifles today such as Kamikaze Sniper Rifles but there are very few originals even still being produced measuring only 8 inches long weighing almost nothing making them ideal for displays & auctions etc...

The name "Rancho Palos Verdes" means "Place of Palm Trees." The land that now makes up Rancho Palos Verdes was first purchased by José María Cisneros in 1839 from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $2,500. Cisneros named his purchase after his father-in-law's estate in La Jolla – Rancho Santa Fe de la Laguna – where he had been born in 1784. In 1875, José María Cisneros sold portions of his holdings at Rancho Palos Verdes to Francisco Pico and Agustín Lerdo for $15,000. In 1907, William Randolph Hearst acquired title to what are now part of Hawthorne and Diamond Bar from José María Cisneros' heirs for $5 million dollars. In 1912 Hearst renamed rancho palmos verdes as Rancho Hollywood which became a movie studio complex known today as Paramount Studios
The Rancho Palos Verdes land grant was given to José de la Montaña and his brother, Francisco de la Montaña, in 1846. The brothers founded the City of Palos Verdes on the site of their rancho in 1849. The city became a county seat in 1850. In 1893, the city was renamed Angeles City after King Edward VIII of England who had married Spanish princess Amalia García y Osorio.
