The early years of this century were also difficult for many residents because they were struggling against a backdrop of increasing social unrest across much of Southern California which led directly to nativism around this time period in America (a movement that blamed all immigrants for rearing public resentment among white Americans). However, things changed after World War I when large numbers came pouring into Southern California looking for work opportunities in newly opened up areas such as Orange County (then part of Los Angeles County) during Reconstruction times following the Civil War. Rancho Palos Verdes, California is a town located in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 82,033 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Gabriel Valley region. The first European settler in Rancho Palos Verdes was José Ruiz de la Hoz. He and his family arrived on July 14, 1821 from Santa Fe with the intention of founding a mission station in what is now Pasadena. When they found no suitable land to build their mission on, they decided to settle on a small hilltop near what is now Union Station. Rancho Palos Verdes was named for Governor Manuel Micheltorena of Mexico who donated 640 acres (2 km²) of land to the community in 1892. The name originally referred to two small coves that separated Monterey Bay from inland Los Angeles County; the present-day cove forms one side of the intersection where Mission Road and State Route 154 cross. In 1907 Antonio Campion established Campion's Cattle Company which became one of Southern California's largest cattle producers and ranchers. The companyowned more than 1 million head of livestock at its peak during World War II when ranching activity increased as a result of new military bases being established throughout Southern California and Nevada west of Interstate 15. In 1951, Rancho Palos Verdes became an unincorporated area within Los Angeles County following local efforts by then-Mayor Richard Riordan to annex it into city limits due to its large agricultural acreage%. Many different types of winemaking are done here including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Syrah among others. Today’s ranch headquarters stand on former grazing land that once belonged to Mr. Hahn’s horses and cattle operation which stretched from today’s city limits all the way down to Bolsa Valley across Highway 95 south to Topanga Canyon where Mr. Hahn also built a home for himself and his family in 1886 while still occupying part of his original purchase at PCH Boulevard & Richards Drve.. Today Partick House stands as a reminder that even amidst such diversity there was always a shared love for good quality red wine!
