The first post office opened in 1916 and continued operation until 1922. The second post office opened in 1926 and continued operations until 1961. On December 15, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in America’s entry into World War II; Rancho PalosVerdes became one of many communities within Los Angeles County to be closed while military installations were converted into munitions plants or used for other purposes during wartime production shortage. The last post office closed at 10:00 p.m., December 16th, 1941 due to lack of mail volume from within rancho palos verdes after Japanese forces bombed Los Angeles early morning hours on December 17th; however even though all civilian activities ceased at 10 p m., military production at nearby munitions plants continued uninterrupted undisturbed until 9:30 A M., December 20th when hostilities ended suddenly without warning . At this time approximately 60 percent of citrus crops had been harvestedOperation Paperclip had begun! As postwar reconstruction began following World War II most citizens returned home but some decided to stay behind for economic opportunities available in new cities such as West Hollywood or Beverly Hills; however there remained a small minority who chose not to leave their ancestral land which would become known as "the moors". This group would continue use agriculture as their primary means-of subsistence until 1948 when they sold off all their remaining land comprising today's town limits which forms almost all that remains disconnected from downtown LAS VEGAS - pretty much unchanged since then! Today's mayor is David Crenshaw who has held his position since 2004 after being elected Mayor pro tempore during terms 2002-2004 & 2006-2008 Incumbent Bob Filner resigned effective January 3rd 2009 after holding public hearings concerning allegations he sexually harassed female employees over a period spanning more than 30 years beginning before he became Assemblyman from LA county

A rail line led to Rancho Palos Verdes' development as a bedroom community for downtown Los Angeles; nevertheless, agriculture continued to play an important role until after World War II when automobiles displaced horsedrawn traffic and began to take over most agricultural work. During the 1950s and 1960s, much activity took place in organized crime circles which had roots in South Coast Mafia boss Sam Giancana's rackets on Long Beach Island; this led to increased law enforcement efforts throughout Southern California during that period known as "Los Angeles County's Red Unit." In 1978, ownership of much of southern San Pedro came under control of Mexican drug cartels who renamed it Calafia after their leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman; however, this region has since reverted back into Mexican hands with sporadic violence taking place there ever since (see also: La Familia). In recent decades there has been significant redevelopment that has taken place near residential areas such as Playa del Carmen and North Hollywood; these developments have brought new life to what was once an isolated rural town located about 25 miles north-northwest of downtown LA.
