Rancho Palos Verdes is located in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. It is a small community of about 12,000 people and it has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The first settlers in Rancho Palos Verdes were Spanish colonists who arrived in 1769. They were followed by Mexican Americans who settled here in 1848. The town was originally named Los Angeles but was renamed Rancho Palos Verdes because of its location on the palos verdes Peninsula which extended from Pasadena to LA County. The first guns that were used in Rancho Palos Verdes were rifles made by Spaniards and Mexicans together. The rifles were called “chisels” because they had sharp edges on the barrel that could slice through game with ease. Chisels became popular among ranchers for hunting deer, elk, and other animals because they could not be killed with a knife or bow and arrow. In 1847, John Sutter founded Sutter’s Fort at present-day Downtown LA and began trading goods with thebay country around Temecula Creek. This led to his discovery of Mission San Gabriel Arcangela (now known as Santa Monica) which he named San Gorgonio after Saint Francis Xavier, one of his apostles. As trade between Sutter’s Bay Country and Mexico increased, so too did arms shipments into Alta California via Juan Bautista de Anza Expedition during 1846-1847 aboard HMS Beagle commanded by Rear Admiral George Vancouver

In 1892, cattle rancher George Custer purchased land east of the city from José Altuve y Ortega. The city was incorporated on April 14, 1912. In 1906, 10% of all firearms used in homicides were handguns owned by Rancho Palos Verdes residents. By 1970 it had fallen to 5%. In 1977 an ordinance was passed that prohibited possession or sale of handguns without a permit from ending this problem quickly. This ordinance remains in force today as part of the City's gun control plan
Rancho Palos Verdes, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 64,515 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific Ocean southeast of downtown Los Angeles and north of Orange County. A post- Mexican American War settlement in 1853 by Mormons, who built a community called Nauvoo on the site of what is today Rancho Palos Verdes Beach, led to the name being applied to an entire municipality which soon included other small communities scattered throughout inland San Bernardino County. The first permanent residents were Anglo Californians (predominantly Protestants) who arrived between 1854 and 1858 as part of cattle drives from Illinois into Southern California. By 1860 most of these settlers had either left or been driven out by Indian hostilities following a land grant from Mexico to George Custer's Cheyenne River Sioux people. The arrival of Japanese Americans during World War II prompted changes in demographics and governance that have continued through present day: In 1941 a princely 10% quota for Japanese Americans was allotted in response to wartime hysteria; this was raised to 25% in 1942 when military facilities became available for use by all citizens; finally 50%was allocated in 1944 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In 1953 local developers purchased 1,500 acres (half a mile square) bordering Oceanside beach so they could build an elaborate model home resort known as "Laguna". A second development followed just east along Laguna Boulevard – now run by Anheuser Busch – with more than 100 homes completed between 1954 and 1957 before developer Sam Eager decided not to pursue further development because he felt his investment would be lessened if Laguna became too popular among locals and tourists only interested in visiting LAGUNA Island rather than living near it. These events initiated a period of rapid growth for Rancho Palos Verdes proper beginning with arrivals of workers from Southwestern United States during the early 1960s followed later by college students and their families after 1965 when state support ended for higher education within San Bernardino County while others counties saw an increase in university enrollment due to opening of new campuses statewide such as UCLA and USC. This accelerated pace has continue unabated until today with total housing units reaching 677 structures including 263 apartments/condominiums/townhomes/apartments next door to Laguna Island developments since2007 making it one of America’s fastest growing metropolitan areas

The introduction of rifled barrels in the 18th century caused problems because the round was not able to be perfectly concentric with the bore when fired. This required the use of special tools called chisels or gouges to make accurate holes in the barrel for firing rounds. Barrels became gradually rifled until they were completely smooth in all directions in the late 19th century.

Rancho Palos Verdes had been in the possession of the same family since 1795. The first post office at Rancho Palos Verdes was established on November 14, 1847. In 1868, a quarantine law was passed which made it illegal to bring in any new animals or plants into California. This law caused much outrage and protest by farmers and their families living in rural areas of California. On June 9, 1869, an act was passed which repealed the quarantine law and allowed importation of livestock and plants from other states. The rancho became part of the United States after Mexican independence from Spain in1821. From its inception until 1862, when it became a US military base, Rancho Palos Verdes served as a center for military training for Californios who hoped to protect themselves against Anglo-American aggression during the Gold Rush era. In 1865, Major General George Armstrong Custer arrived at Rancho Palos Verdes to take command of his army’s campaigns against Native Americans in Oregon and Arizona. He left behind him a lasting legacy at Rancho Palos Verdes with his “Buffalo Soldiers” unit who camped there for three weeks each summer between 1866-1867 while Patrol Squadron Sixteen patrolled California’s coastline looking for hostile Indians
In 1849, Rancho Palos Verdes was given to José Joaquín de la Peña y Soto by the Mexican government. The area now includes the towns of Palos Verdes Peninsula, Playa del Carmen, and Morro Bay. From here, Spanish explorer Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo sailed in search of new land to sell to Spain. He sighted California on July 14, 1542 and named it Las Californias (the States).
