There are many gun magazines in Rancho Mirage, California. The first magazine, the Rancho Mirage Rifle and Pistol Club's (RMRPC) Journal of Firearms was published in 1907. There have been various incarnations of the RMRPC over the years, but it is generally considered to be the oldest continuously operating firearms club in Southern California. The present-day Rancho Mirage Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on May 15, 1959 by Donnie Blanding and John Fenton. At its peak membership numbered over 300 shooters. Since its inception, the club has sponsored numerous rifle and pistol tournaments across southern California as well as held several annual firearms Shows including the Calguns Championship Show at Mokelumne Hill Park in San Bernardino County on September 11-13th each year since 1978. Many of Rancho Mirage's most prominent gun owners and contributors include: Edward Slingerland (founder of OCgunStore.com), Jimmy Dunn (co-founder of Inland Empire Gun & Ammo), Dick Reilly (owner/operator of Desert Dog Shooters Supply Co.), Bob Heiderich ( owner/operator of Riverside Arms Sales Ltd.), Tom Langevin (president emeritus of American Gunsmiths Association), Wally Greenwood (president emeritus of Valley Shooting Sports Federation), Fred Eliavitz (owner/operator of Home Depot stores throughout Orange County) and many more!

Rancho Mirage is a small town in the Inland Empire of California, located about 25 miles east of Los Angeles. The original population of about 400 people grew to over 1,000 by 1910. In 1915, the family moved from their ranch to what is now known as Palmdale and opened a grocery store there. That year they also built a sawmill on their property. In 1916 the Dodge brothers sold their share of the business to Harry Hohlkeller, who operated it until his death in 1927. After Hohlkeller's death, Sales and Marketing Manager Arthur Payson took over management and kept it until 1982 when it was acquired by WhiteWave Foods. The first time that Rancho Mirage was used as a filming location for a movie was for The Lost World (1915). Other famous movies that have been filmed here include For Whom the Bell Tolls (1946), High Noon (1950), The Godfather (1972), Forrest Gump (1994) and Armageddon (1998). In 2019, US News & World Report ranked Rancho Mirage as one of America’s “Best Places To Live” for a fifth consecutive year based on its quality of life, natural resources and playground opportunities.
Rancho Mirage is located in the eastern Mojave Desert of California. The area was first inhabited by Native Americans, who called it yucca land. In 1846, Rancho Mirage was purchased by Stephen J. Barker from Juan Bautista Latham for $5,000. Barker ran the ranch until his death in 1868. It passed through several hands before becoming part of the Carson-Ferguson family ownership in 1923. In 1952, Ivar Cederquist bought the ranch and made it a public domain property.
