Rancho Mirage was founded on December 12, 1911 by John Prentice and his son-in-law George C. Marshall as a citrus grower's community near Palm Springs. In November 1912, John Prentice sold his interest in Rancho Mirage to Charles Eames of Leland Stanford Junior's brother Edwin "Dutch" Eldredge for $25 million in what turned out to be one of the largest land purchases ever made in American history. The new owners built a large mansion on 5 acres (2 ha) south of Interstate 10 and named it Vista del Mar after their purchase price from Prentice and Eldredge. In 1916 they married[1] and moved into Villa San Juan Bautista (now known as Casa Blanca). They had two children: Linda later became Mrs. Ronald Reagan while husband Ronald served as President; Catherine became Mrs. Gerald Ford. The siblings divided their vast holdings among themselves but continued to live at Villa San Juan Bautista until their deaths in 1973 and 1988 respectively (Linda died aged 81 years; Catherine lived until age 94). After Villa San Juan Bautista's sale, some members of the family moved back into rancho Mirage while others took up residence elsewhere in Southern California during the 1970s when air travel became available much further north than they had ever been able to reach before thanks tomodern technology advancements such as jet travel etcetera which led eventually to them all moving back into Rancho Mirage around 1980 or so following which it remained an active neighborhood with numerous homes until 2003 when it came under control of city planners who once again abandoned its character/look/feel wanting instead something more suburban or even urbanized like many other older inner-city neighborhoods that have now become completely Urbanized due to budget cuts by City Hall.) However, early airguns were not very reliable and only shot about 10 feet in the air. In 1851, a man named John Fenton developed a more reliable and efficient airgun that could shoot up to 25 feet in the air. This new type of airgun was called an ' opera gun'. In 1865, another man named Samuel Colt patented the first firearms using gas powder instead of animal blood as ammunition. With these advancements in technology,airguns became much more popular than they had ever been before.

Rancho Mirage is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 11,537 at the 2010 census. It has been the site of various settlements and cattle ranches since the 1860s. In 1902 it became part of the City of Riverside. Rancho Mirage is located on Interstate 10 between San Bernardino and Palm Springs. The name "Rancho Mirage" ( Spanish: Rancho Mirada ) means "cow pasture". The first known inhabitants were an encampment of Native Americans who lived near what is now downtown Riverside in 1859-60. A group of Mexicans from Baja California decided to settle here following their Mexican War victory over American forces at Cahuenga Pass in 1867. They named the place after José María de la Vega Yuma, Governor-General of Mexico during that period and one of his deputies (). In 1902, when Los Angeles became a city and Great Western Railway connected Riverside with Los Angeles through nearby Glendale, ranchos in east Riverside County were annexed into LA; Rancho Mirage remained unincorporated. In 1923, when LA annexed more area north of I-10 including much of eastern Riverside County, ranchers there began to move out to new grazing areas west of I-10 because they could no longer afford to maintain their properties as well as keep up with development within city limits. In 1961 Bob Hope moved his family from Pasadena to live in Palmdale while he made movies at Paramount studios on location adjacent to I-10 just south of downtown Los Angeles; he bought a house near Disneyland there in 1966 and sold it soon after for $1 million ($ today). His home continues as a hotel called Disney's Grand Californian Resort & Spa which opened in 1971 next door to Hollywood Studios (now Walt Disney World) on land formerly used by Warner Bros.. This property was later purchased by MGM which built its own theme park on it – MGM Park – which opened in 1974. The oil industry declined starting around 1970 but continued until 2000 when production peak for syncrude ended due to global recession associated with changes wrought by Enron’sraudulent energy trading scheme known as “theredits”
The rancho Mirage became a part of Mexico in 1848 when it was purchased by José Antonio García de la Cruz. In 1855, García de la Cruz sold the rancho to his brother-in-law Manuel Nieto. The Nieto family ran it for about sixty years before it passed into the hands of their eldest son, Francisco Nunez, in 1912. After two stints as a military dictatorship and a period of economic depression, Nunez sold the rancho to John D. Rockefeller in 1928. It was later bought by MGM Studios in 1951 and parcelized among its subsidiaries until its sale to Anschutz Entertainment Group in 1984.
