Rancho Cucamonga, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 61,744 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of metropolitan San Bernardino and is the most populous city east of Los Angeles. The first flashlight in Rancho Cucamonga was invented by Harry Nye in 1935 and named the "Gemma." It used an early version of lightbulb technology to emit a small amount of light that could be seen by hand or held up to a mirror. Rancho Cucamonga is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 30,973 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the City of Los Angeles metropolitan area and is part of the Pomona-Oxnard-Hollywood Combined Statistical Area. Rancho Cucamonga's economy revolves around agriculture and ranching, with a small amount of manufacturing also present. The city has two main high schools: Cucamonga Valley High School and Northridge High School. Rancho Cucamonga was founded by Mexicans in 1878 as Rancho Hacienda de Santa Anita del Chino Viveiro. In 1899, it became Rancho Rinconada de la Cañada de Sawtelle after its owner sold his interest to James Irvine. In 1912, it became Rancho Rinconada del Arroyo Seco beneath which lie today's cities of Oxnard and Carson City. In 1933 it became an incorporated town when all but one square mile (0.8 km²) of its land were annexed by Los Angeles; this annexation left only about 0.5 km² remaining that are now within the boundaries of Rancionero Park public school district (current boundaries). The community achieved international attention when developer George Lucas settled there for a time in 1939 to create "Star Wars". Since then, much industry has moved into Rancho Cucamonga; including Generics Inc.'s largest medical products plant in southern California and Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works missile development facility which employs thousands upon thousands people across Southern California - most notably over 100% employment at Redlands Regional Medical Center since 1990 as well as other major employers like Toyota Motor Manufacturing Co., Qualcomm Incorporated and Warner Bros Pictures' Burbank studios complex housing their motion picture production facilities as well as research laboratories for both game design work done at Skywalker Sound near LAX Airport while production on several major Hollywood blockbusters continue up until very recently (most recently Paramount Pictures' new $650 million movie factory known locally simply as "Monaco" - see article on film production in CA). In recent years much focus has been placed on Orange County adjacent to neighboring Riverside County due to many large developments taking place such as Disneyland Resort nearby – including plans for Hyatt Regency hotel chains multiple resorts (including 5 Californian sized parks), MGM Grand Garden Arena/Lemon Grove Casino & Racetrack/Waterworld amusement park currently under construction adjacent to Interstate 5 south from downtown called Galaxy Park with numerous other entertainment venues being planned or active simultaneously throughout this massive growth area – making it one of most rapidly growing areas in Southern California – with no sign yet of any slowdown or reversal in this trend! In 1916, during World War I, the United States built Camp Huachuca as part of an effort toDF defense against potential German aggression. After Camp Huachuca was closed in 1919, many soldiers who had served there returned home and their families began residing on the ranchos adjacent to Camp Huachuca. The Eastmans donated much of their holdings to Pasadena City College in 1924 when they were foundation president of PCC's first campus west of Los Angeles. The college relocated its main campus from Long Beach to what is now Westwood Village near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in 1926. In 1942, during World War II, because of wartime rationing, much of Rancho Cucamonga got turned into military housing developments called "Hollywood Hills." In 1957-1958ring due to then-new state laws governing agricultural land purchase and development within city limits (the original rules had been stricter), Harry Elmer Hanson bought 1/3rd interest in RCSB from Ewing Krantz for $1 million dollars cash plus assumption of debt then used it to buy another 3/4ths interest from Weldon Cooper for $2 million dollars also cash plus assumption of debt also using it as collateral for a loan which he then refinanced at 6%. On July 1st 1959 Hanson transferred title deed #560436 from Weldon Cooper (the buyer)to Harry Elmer Hanson (the seller).
