Rancho Cucamonga, located in the Inland Empire of California, was founded in 1881 by Don Francisco Xavier Serra and his wife Margarita. Rancho Cucamonga became a part of the United States on February 14, 1912 when it was entered into the Mexican Boundary Treaty. The boundary line between Mexico and the United States crossed through Rancho Cucamonga. Today, Rancho Cucamonga is an agricultural community with a population of over 115,000 people. It is home to many famous families including those who founded Applebee's, Nike, Intel and MGM Grand Las Vegas. The community also has several shopping malls which include Macy's and Sears as well as several restaurants such as Olive Garden and Quiznos. The history of Rancho Cucamonga begins with one man - Don Francisco Xavier Serra. Born in 1851 within sight of today's town of Walnut Creek on the banks of the San Gabriel River he soon realized that there was much potential for ranching hereabouts. He purchased 5 square miles of land from Juan Bautista Alvarado on July 1st, 1881 for $5 per acre ($140 per kilometer). Over time more land was added to this holdings making it up to 8 square miles (222 acres) before its sale toalcoholist John Sutter on October 6th 1899 for $25/acre ($625/km). Sutter used this area for barley production until 1901 when he decided to buy some 2120 acres (810 km²) adjacent to present day Rancheria Rd., east off US-101 near Claremont Hills for cattle grazing purposes only producing about 10 head/acre (4 ha; 12 t). The original grantees were ranchers Manuel Nieto and Antonio Zamora but their heirs continue grazing until present day along with other family members including brothers Hector & Ruben Gomez who acquired 640 acres adjoining Sanchez Canyon Road in 1917;aquinqueros Guerra & Hernandez acquired 640 acres adjoining Guerrero Valley Rd.; José Muro acquire 400 acres adjoining Indian Wells Blvd.; Augustin Gomez acquire 320 acres adjoining Chatsworth Ave.; José Vargas purchase 240 acres adjoining Moorpark Ave.. These grants were gradually subdivided among various owners until ultimately becoming what we know today: Hacienda de las Palomas Grant No 3-515(now known as Vista Hermosa), now registered with UBIA under number CR 2427574-CR 2462992 Agrarian Land District #1

Rancho Cucamonga was founded in 1887 by José María del Valle and his wife, Ana Márquez. The original Rancho was located on the present day site of East Covina. The rancho included over 235 acres (100 hectares) of land that stretched from what is now the city of Riverside to the community of San Dimas. In 1912, Juanita Carrillo became director of agriculture for the City of Los Angeles and ordered all properties within east Covina to be sold off except for a small piece that remained under Rancho Cucamonga's control. This left two small parcels which were used as dairy farms until 1924 when they were combined with other property in eastern Covina to form the east Covina Parkland neighborhood. In 1886, José María del Valle married Ana Márquez and together they founded Rancho Cucamonga. Their first farmstead consisted of a adobe house and six cows. By 1912, the couple had acquired additional land within east Covina for their new rancho which totaled 234 acres (100 hectares). From this initial transaction, Rancho Cucamonga would continue to expand and grow into one of Southern California's most successful agricultural communities. Today, Rancho Cucamonga remains an important part of southern California history; its lands include more than 350 acres (150 hectares) devoted to agriculture and another 160 acres (60 hectares) dedicated to parklandlands which comprise much of eastern Covina Parkland neighborhood today. In addition, the ranch has produced many notable individuals including Pedro Pablo Montoya Jr., who served as Governor of California from 1995-2003; Congressman Darrell Issa who is currently serving in Congress since 2003; Héctor Villarreal who is currently Mayorof East Covina;and Stanislaus County Superintendent Jerry Brown who has been elected Governor twice since 2003
