However, due to World War I (1914-18), Wickersham's plans were quickly sidelined as aircraft production increased in America during those years and lumber became more important than aviation in Vichy France's economy after its collapse following World War I. In 1919, when James Wickersham died suddenly without leaving any real estate holdings behind him other than some unused airplane hangar space on his property near Corona del Mar in Orange County - which would eventually become Yorba Linda - Rancho Cucamonga reverted back to Manuel Nieto's ownership and continued under this name until 1926 when it changed once again becoming Rancho Sanchez Peralta with offices at 9571 San Pasqual Drive in Irvine. From 1928 until 1942 it was known as simply "Rancho Sanchez." In 1942ranchosanchezperaltadomovedtoOntariovilleandwasrenamedRanchocoloradoagainin 1949afterthenationalistiscandalsofWorldWarII。 ItremainedunderColorsadanuisancefrom1966toward1980sbeforeitwasfirebombedduringthePacoallegationoftheSpanishpeopleagainstUpperCaliforniaduringTheFiscalYears1969-70.(see Pomona College report) On Feb 17th 1984 local citizens began an uprising against organized crime elements operating out of Corona Del Mar by occupying several high school campuses throughout southern Ontarioville; these actions eventually led unsuccessfully to a siege on Colormont High School which lasted for days culminating with the Occupation on Feb 24th 1984 which ended with surrender by all insurgents and release by police backup units who arrived only after dayslong standoff). This event is generally considered one of the most significant rebellions against organized crime activity ever staged outside Of California! Aftermath: Most violence occurred between police forces rather than civilians
Rancho Cucamonga was founded in 1839 by Jose Garza and his wife Marcela. The original location was a ranch on the east side of Rancho Cucamonga, now part of Claremont. In 1843, JoseGarza acquired the adjoining parcel of land which he named Rancho Cucamonga del Norte. In 1865, California legislature passed an act providing for the creation of a county within San Bernardino County; Rancho Cucamonga became one of its first townships. The town was incorporated as a city in 1909. In 1923, it merged with neighboring Claremont to form what is now known as Claremont-Rancho Cucamonga Unified government. The City and Township formed a single government because they were both located within San Bernardino County and did not want to be separate governments again after annexation into Riverside County. “In 1908 when City and Township united they each had 1,752 citizens...In 1923 when city merged with township it had 6,500 residents...both cities are currently experiencing their lowest population since incorporation” (City & Township history website)
