Rancho Cucamonga's gun barrel history begins with the first pistols and rifles in 1851. The area was part of Rancho San Bernardino, which was founded by Governor Manuel Nieto in 1795. In 1853, Don José de la Garza purchased a rancho called Rancho Cucamonga from Francisco Alarcón and grant it to his son José de la Garza y Mendiola. The family used this land for grazing, farming, and hunting until Becerra took office as governor of California in 1878. In that year, he renamed Rancho Cucamonga after Los Angeles County seat of management for Riverside County. In 1892, the following year saw the introduction of the standard-issue revolver on American soil. This weapon was designed by George Papp and became known as the Colt Model 1911 pistol. It featured a six-round magazine and a wooden frame that could be snapped into place for easy carrying. By 1912, there were over 1 million Colt 1911 pistols in existence worldwide! In 1924, eight miles east of Rancho Cucamonga off I-405 lie what is now known as Redwood National Park. Rancho Cucamonga, California is located in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. It is a large, rural community of over 140,000 residents. The name “Rancho” comes from Rancho Santa Fe which was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado by King Phillip II of Spain in 1769. The land that now makes up Rancho Cucamonga was originally part of Mission San Gabriel Arcángel. In 1881, a group of settlers led by James Phelan bought the Rancho from José Baca and sold it to Captain John Lynch for $5,000. The area around Rancho Cucamonga became known as “The Promised Land” because it had been promised to groups of miners who helped build the railroad system in the early 20th century. Rancho Cucamonga was founded in 1874 by Capt. Alonzo W. Hahn and his wife, Maria Inez Hahn. The first post office was established in Rancho Cucamonga on October 20, 1874. It was moved to its present location in 1907. Rancho Cucamonga became a city in 1923 and is now the largest city within the Antelope Valley appellation of Orange County, California. At one time, Rancho Cucamonga had over 100 businesses employing nearly 200 people including 15 banks and 10 garment factories. Today, the population of Rancho Cucamonga is just under 50,000 with most residents living near either freeway exits or shopping centers that offer easy access to major highways.
Rancho Cucamonga was founded in 1836 by Rancho Santa Anita owner, Juan Bautista Alvarado. The first post office was established in this town in 1838. The town grew rapidly around the ranchos and plantations that were developed there. In 1860, the California Gold Rush started and many people from Rancho Santa Anita moved to California to find wealth. Many of these people settled in Rancho Cucamonga. In 1916, theranchos were sold to oilman Edwin Ladd and his wife Jeannette. They renamed the ranch "Rancho Cucamonga Oil Company" and continued to operate it until their death in 1947.
