Rancho Cordova, California is a town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 16,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area and is included in the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim Combined Statistical Area. Rancho Cordova was founded by Santiago Legazpi in 1836 as Rancho Santa Anita de la Buena Ventura. In 1881, it became part of the United States when it was annexed into Riverside County. The first permanent settler in Rancho Cordova was Manuel Nieto, who arrived from Mexico in 1836. He built a adobe house on what is now Main Street and named it "Nieto's Ranch." Theranch grew to include over 150 acres (64 hectares). By 1840, there were six buildings on the ranch including a brick building known as the White House that later served as county courthouse. In 1881, Mexican land grants were made available for sale to Americans and soon after many people from Northern California began buying tracts of land hereabouts.Among them were George Copley Copley (1811-1883), who bought 3/8 acre (1 hectare) of property southeast of Main Street; his brother John Aiken Copley (1820-1909), who acquired 1/4 acre (0·6 hectare) north of Main Street; Augustus De Morgan Lodge No. 2 LLC purchased 1/2 acre (.08 hectare) east of Main Street; J P Morgan & Sons organized a sectional cattle drive from Texas on Decatur Road near present day Willowbrook Boulevard; Wm H Bradley & Son purchased an additional 3/8 acre (.1 hectare) east ofMainStreet for future development; James H Kaiser buyedevelopment from brothers Samuel Goldfinch () and Nathaniel Hawksbill ().In 1850s most settler activity centered around raising horses for riding or driving stagecoaches between Los Angeles and points west across Mono Lake A hotel called "The Biltmore" opened in 1860 on present day Moorpark Avenue which became one of Southern California's first commercial centers In 1870 Colfax Avenue was developed as a shopping street with several stores along its length Moses Guggenheim Museum opened its doors to the public in 1919 The post office closed in 1958 Many new businesses arose during this time such as numerous garment companies being established along Central Avenue such as American Eagle Outfitters (), Sears Roebuck (), JCPenney (), Macy's (), etc., while also having several small grocery stores open up including Benaroya Coffee Company (), Golden Corral ()); Dutch Bros.' Rancho Cordova, California is located in the fiscal year of 2008 on the Pacific Ocean and it has an area of 7,171 square miles. It is a census-designated place in San Diego County and its population was 166,814 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1851 by Jedediah Smith and his family after they abandoned their previous location near Mexican Fort Carmona. Rancho Cordova became one of the most important land grants in California because it offered easy access to water supplies and ranching opportunities. The first settlers were Spanish noblemen who had purchased land from the Mexican government for $5,000 per acre (1/2 million pesos). In 1881, Californian Governor Manuel Miranda granted a deed to Captain George Waring that allowed him to build a dock at what is now known as Point Loma onshore about 12 miles east of Rancho Cordova. The harbor at Point Loma served as a stopover for ships traveling between San Francisco Bay and Southern California during Gold Rush days. Waring built two wharves which remain extant today: Wharf 1 on shoreline east of present day Savellano Boulevard and Wharf 2 on shoreline west of present day Katella Avenue. He also built two stores, One called "Gordons" located at Eighth Street between Harbor Drive and Lincoln Way while another called "Waring's Store" was located at Sixth Street between Harbor Drive and McAllister Way. The store operated until 1892 when Waring sold his holdings to John Sutter who renamed them "Sutter's Land". At this time, Rancho Cordova began to decline due to increasing competition from nearby towns such as Encinitas, Carlsbad and Isla Vista with similar water resources but cheaper prices for land. In 1923, Jerry Brown became governor of California; he announced plans to make Rancho Cordova into a state park so that people could enjoy it without having to worry about Competition from other states' parks which were then underdeveloped or undeveloped according to Brown's plan which would have required Congress approval under then- republican president Herbert Hoover . However, plans never materialized because Brown was eventually impeached . In 1951 passage of Proposition 14 led by Republican Ulysses S. Grant eliminated all state public lands within 10 miles of any city or town except Los Angeles making Rancho Cordova an exception . This action made ranching operations much more difficult since there were no longer any opportunities for farmers or ranchers compete against urban areas for access to natural resources like waterfowl hunting grounds or airfields
The Rancho Cordova portion of California was first settled in 1847 by José Garza and his brother, Manuel Garza. The area quickly became a cattle ranch after gold was discovered at the nearby Comstock Lode in 1849. The Garzas were able to purchase the land from the Mexican government for $2,500. In 1860, they founded what would become Pasadena. The Garzas continued to run their ranch until 1907 when it was sold to an investment group led by James Irvine. After becoming president of Western Electric Company, he donated the land for the University of California at Berkeley.
