Beginning in the 1800s, there were many gunsmiths and dealers located in this small town on the eastern edge of San Bernardino County. The first gun magazine was started in 1892 by Samuel Colt at his shop on Third Street. It was called "The Rifleman." In 1916, the town's only grocery store closed down, leaving residents without food or ammunition. Gun enthusiasts turned to local shooting ranges for their needs. One of these ranges was the Rancho Cordova Shooting Club which was founded in 1922 by Johnnie Caldwell and Sam Olin Richardson. After World War II ended, there were growing concerns about nuclear weapons and the need for more ammo to protect against them. From here on out, Rancho Cordova became one of the most popular shooting locations for handgun shooters around the country.

Rancho Cordova, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California that was founded by Spanish settlers in 1859. The original rancho was located on the present-day city block known as North First Street and East Market Street. Today, Rancho Cordova is a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of 5,812. The CDP covers an area of 1.5 square miles (3 km²). The history of Rancho Cordova began with the purchase of 160 acres (65 hectares) of land from Juan Bautista de Anza in 1859. During the Surveyor's Office era, Rancho Cordova was one of several missions and grants owned by Alta California Governor José Maria Morelos y Costilla. In 1882, part of Rancho Cordova was sold to George Hearst for $10 million. After Hearst's death in 1913, his widow donated the entire tract to the State of California for use as a public park. This trend continued into the 21st century with many publications now concentrating exclusively on target/firearm training or military equipment/ doctrine! It really is amazing how such a diverse range of topics can be covered within one single issue!

Rancho Cordova was a land grant given to José Murillo in 1836. It was located on the rancho of Rancho San Pablo, about 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The grant consisted of 640 acres and included the present-day city of Pasadena and most of what is now Orange County. The Murillo family lived on the ranch from 1836 to 1881. By 1880, they had sold all their holdings in California except Rancho Cordova to John C. Frémont for $5 million dollars. In 1896, Frémont donated Rancho Cordova to the City of Los Angeles as part of the then new City Plan which divided LA into four wards: Westside (based in Boyle Heights), South Central (in downtown Los Angeles), Eastside (in Watts) and North Central (in Long Beach). The property later became one of the first areas developed by Mayor Richard Riordan after his election in 1978 as leader of city government.
The original Rancho Cordova land grant was given to José María Cámpora, who established a ranch there in 1821. In 1846, the Rancho Cordova Mexican Land Grant was created and given to Francisco Alvarado. The name “Rancho Cordova” was granted officially on May 10, 1853, when Governor Manuel Micheltin created the Rancho Cordova District within the new Mexican territory of California. By 1860, approximately 80% of the present-day city of Los Angeles had been built on part or all of what is now Rancho Cordova.
