In 1860, local residents built a new store and hotel called the "Queen's Hotel." This building still stands today and has been used as a restaurant since 1978. A post office was established at Rancho Cordova on December 12, 1853, and remained open until it closed on July 15, 1902. In 1875, an oil well was drilled in Rancho Cordova and production started soon after. It continued until 1907 when it stopped due to low oil prices. In 1912, ranching began again with some land being leased from Northern Pacific Railroad Company for $2 per acre per year rent including water rights which continues to be rented today by BARRA Management Corporation (BARRA). The original lease ended in 1916 but later reinstated with modifications under then Supervisor of Lands Harry Cogswell who also served as Mayor of San Rafael during this time period; both events signified the beginning of an era where ranching would continue to play an important role in community life across western Sonoma County while other businesses took hold within the larger cityscape nearby; this “Oldtimer” phase saw development along Main Street that paralleled BART access/rendezvous points opposite Race Course Drive & Morningside Avenue) not only resulting from increased commercial activity but also encouraged socializing amongst ranchers/farmers adjacent to townsites such as Willits (Mid-Peninsula), Novato (South Bay Area), Petaluma (North Coast), Santa Rosa(Central Coast) & Cloverdale(East Marin). Rancho Cordova was first established in 1847 by Francisco and Mariana Cabrillo. The Rancho Cordova land grant was given to them by the Mexican government as a way of rewarding them for their exploration and discovery of California. The Cabrillos were the 8th generation of Spanish-American pioneers who had come to California in 1821. rancho cordova is located on the present day corner of 21st Street and Olive Avenue, within walking distance of downtown Los Angeles. The first buildings on the property were a small adobe cabin built in 1847, which served as their headquarters for exploring and managing the Rancho Cordova land grant. In 1862, following Mexico's declaration of war on America, General Antonio López de Santa Anna issued an order forbidding white men from living or working on Mexican soil. As a result, many Spanish- American settlers abandoned their holdings in California, including Francisco Cabrillo and his family. In 1865, while still living at San Miguel Mission Church near La Jolla, Captain John Copley purchased additional Rancho Cordova land from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $1 million dollars. This purchase marked the beginning of what would become one of Southern California's most successful agricultural communities – Copley’s Agriculture Company became one of the largest cotton farming businesses in history. Captain Copley later donated portions of his farmstead to Pasadena City College where he began developing what would become known as “Cordova Park” – now home to several large universities including UCLA and USC among others – with its rolling hillsides and beautiful views overlooking Los Angeles County. In 1887 Captain Copley passed away after a long life filled with achievements at sea, agriculture, philanthropy and civic service to Pasadena City College; leaving behind him an estate that includes over 375 acres (190 ha)of rolling hillsides stretching over 11 miles (16 km). Today part of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center sits atop Captain John Copley Hill – site where he once placed bread doughnuts on hot baking sticks during morning services at church!
Rancho Cordova is a census-designated place in California, United States. It is located on the banks of the Santa Clara River, about south of San Francisco. Rancho Cordova was granted to Jose de la Torre y Sotelo in 1797 by Spanish Governor Felipe De La Hoz. The area later became part of Alamo Heights and was named for General Antonio Lopez de Cordova, who fought in the Mexican–American War.
