The thumb-hole grip was most common on pistols and shotguns because it allowed the user to hold the gun in one hand with the fingers of the other hand. In Rancho Cordova, California, there are several examples of handguns that were manufactured with traditional hand-held gripes. These guns include revolvers and semiautomatic pistols. The revolvers were typically manufactured with a right-handed grip while semiautomatic pistols were typically produced with a left-handed grip. While these handguns may have been made using different grips depending on which handedness an individual was comfortable wielding them in, they all had traditional thumb hole grips. One of the most significant changes to firearms after World War II occurred when machineguns became popular. Machineguns utilized a variety of gripping techniques, including knuckle gun gripping, revolver style handgun handsling, and Chapman’s method which involved grasping both barrels at once by means of webbing between them (Chapman Grip). As machineguns became more powerful and faster firing devices, it became necessary to develop new ways to handle them so that users would not become injured or killed when firing. One solution was to adopt a more conventional handgun grip – a thumb hole grip – which would allow users to fire without becoming injured or killed from recoil alone. It should be noted that this change did not occur overnight; many people still used traditional hand held grips during World War II because they were familiar with how those handles worked and did not fear injury or death from gunfire. The thumb hole grip remained popular during the postwar years until it was replaced by a modern Glock style holster holster in late 2007/early 2008 (Glock Pistol Holster Design). This change occurred due to increased liability concerns associated with using improvised holsters instead of licensed holsters made by manufacturers such as Smith & Wesson and Glock (CastileHolster). In light of this increase in risk factors for firearm injuries caused by Improvised Holstering Techniques (IHT), Glock decided that its pistol holsters would no longer feature thumb hole Grips as part of their design language (CastileHolster Holdings Inc.). That said, some individuals continued to use traditional Handgun Grips within their personal firearms even though they no longer contain finger grooves like those found on CastileHolster products

Rancho Cordova (1853-1920) was a large and prosperous rancho in southern California. It was located on the edge of present day San Bernardino County, about 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The rancho was divided into two parts in 1881: Rancho Cordova East and Rancho Cordova West. By 1907, the eastern part had been merged into the larger Rancho Santa Margarita. In 1916, the western part of the rancho became an independent city, named Cordova after its founder, John B. Sutter. The original 9 landowners who organized Rancho Santa Margarita included John Dillinger and his brother Charles. They were joined by other men including J. Prentice Clarke who owned another 640 acres near present day Sun Valley and also participated in organizing the town of Vista del Rey which eventually became incorporated as a City in 1924). From 1853 to 1880s there were no fences or Restrictions on grazing on this land making it one of continual growth for many years with Cattle drives coming down from Mexico through Southern California every year to graze their way across these hills to winter at our ranches
Rancho Cordova, California (formerly Rancho Cucamonga) was a Mexican land grant in southern California. It was first given to Timbiras Rivera in 1834. The name "Cordova" is Spanish for "vineyard."
