Rancho Cordova, California is a town in San Diego County, California. It was founded on November 10, 1847 by the brothers George and Alonzo Cordova as Rancho San Pedro. On February 14, 1857, it became part of the newly formed County of San Diego. The Town of Rancho Cordova was incorporated on July 24, 1907.

Rancho Cordova, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. It is located about 25 miles northeast of Sacramento and 50 miles southwest of Stockton. The population was 2,751 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in Rancho Cordova were traders from Peru who landed on the coast of present-day California in 1847. They named their land Rancho Cucamonga after one of their ships, which had sunk off the coast of southern Mexico in 1846. A few years later, another group of Peruvians arrived and founded Mission San Francisco de Asis (later Mission Dolores). In 1851, Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna commissioned Captain George Moore to survey the area for a ranch grant that would become Rancho Cordova. The grant was 4,828 acres (1 km²). In 1865, President Andrew Johnson issued an executive order creating two national forests: Oak Flat National Monument to cover most of what is now Rancho Cordova and Butte National Forest to include much of what is now Rancho Cordova. These forests were created as part of the Great Depression era government program to consolidate federal lands into more manageable blocks so they could be used more efficiently for forestry purposes. In 1930, when residents in nearby Stockton petitioned to join Rancho Cordova as a town, it was granted city status; however, it never included any municiple services or amenities such as a school or hospital. In 1960s and 1970s various attempts were made by individual ranchers to open up portions of Rancho Cordova for farming purposes but these efforts failed due to lack of land availability and opposition from local officials. Today there are still some homes scattered throughout rural areas but most people live within close proximity to schools and shopping centers such as Mills River Mall near Sacramento and JCPenney down around Main Street in Stockton

In 1892, Santiago sold much of the property north of downtown to A.E. Bechtel for $4 million, making it one of the largest agricultural sales ever made in history. Since its establishment as a ranching community, Rancho Cordova has been home to many famous people including Ronald Reagan and Jackie Kennedy on their childhood vacations; numerous Hollywood stars who have lived there such as Humphrey Bogart and James Dean; and current Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
Rancho Cordova was founded in 1847 by Juan Bandelier, who named it after his brother-in-law, Rancho Las Palmas. The site was originally part of the adobe town of Santa Fe. In 1854, Martinez married the daughter of José Garza and moved to Rancho Cordova with her. Martinez became a landowner and cattleman, and later developed a citrus industry. The city of San Francisco was founded on the adjacent hills in 1853 by gold minerslooking for a new home for their families. By 1870, there were over 20 thousand people living in San Francisco and Rancho Cordova alone had over 100 thousand residents.
