Airguns have been around since the early 1800s, and Rancho Cordova is home to one of the earliest airgun clubs in California. The club was founded in 1892 by A.J. Griffin, who used airguns to hunt deer and other game in his farmlands near Cordova. The club has continued to operate ever since, and today boasts a membership of over 100 shooters. The history of Rancho Cordova’s airgun community goes back even further. In 1870, John Dooley opened the first public shooting range in California – located on land that now includes the University of California at Davis campus – using airguns to target birds. Dooley’s range was soon followed by others across the state, and by the end of the 19th century, Californians were enjoying access to high-quality airguns for hunting all manner of animals. Throughout most of this time, ranching was an important part of American society; during these years, firearms were often used as tools for farmers to protect their crops from pests or predators. As gun ownership increased along with farming practices changed, so didairgun use; today, there are more than 20 separate shooting ranges across Northern California using both traditional firearms and modern airguns. One key factor that contributed to Rancho Cordova’s strong airgun community is its location; just south of town lies Hoover Dam National Recreation Area perfect for exploring some of Southern Nevada’s stunning scenery while firing off rounds from your backyard cannon! In the early 1800s, Rancho Cordova was a small ranching community in southern California. The area now includes the city of Rancho Cordova and the unincorporated communities of Rodman and Taylor. In 1835, Mexican settlers arrived in Rancho Cordova and began to ranch land. The first airgun factory in California was built here in 1850 by Eli Whitney.
Rancho Cordova, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 9,512 at the 2010 census. It is located in San Bernardino County and has a total area of just over square miles. The townsite was laid out by Mexican pioneers in 1851 as Rancho Cucamonga. The name change to Rancho Cordova when it became part of the United States in 1892. The first post office opened in Rancho Cordova on January 20, 1852. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the Santa Ana River and its access to water supplies from nearby mountains. In 1871, a railroad station was built and remained an important node for trade until it closed in 1922. In 1911, President William Howard Taft granted citizenship to all Native Americans living within 10 miles of Los Angeles County (the so-called "Taft-Lincoln Code"). This led to increased Anglo settlement around Rancho Cordova, which by 1924 had reached 30%. By 1930, only 4% of the population were Japanese American citizens and almost all white people lived there according to Census figures. During World War II, large numbers of Japanese Americans were interned atranchos throughout Southern California such as Chanhassen Naval Air Station near Ewa Beach on Oahu Island and Topaz Harbor on Shasta Lake while also being held at various army camps across Northern California such as Sanger Army Camp on Angelina Island in 1945-46 and Stockton Army Terminal near Sacramento during 1946-47 (see Listing #1). However most were released following surrender or repatriation orders issued by US military commanders after Japan's surrender October 19th 1945 with few remaining behind including many residents of Rancho Cordova who remained German American Citizens up until that point

Rancho Cordova (1847-1927) was a Rancho Santa Anita, California landowner and entrepreneur who played an important role in the history of the region. He was born in 1847 in San Francisco, California to parents Francisco Cordova and Manuela de la Garza. After studying law at the University of California, Berkeley, Cordova began his business career as a lawyer. In 1896 he bought 350 acres of rancho land on the edge of town from John Sutter for $8,000. The ranch became known as Rancho Santa Anita and its property continued to be used for racing until it was sold to Hearst Corporation in 1933. Cordova's businesses included cattle farming, real estate development, winegrowing, and other interests. He is also recognized for having developed what is now City College of Los Angeles; his donations helped make that institution one of the most prestigious in America. Cordova died in 1927 aged 88 years old.
The area now known as Rancho Cordova was part of the Mexican land grant Rancho San Rafael to José Maria Narváez in 1821. The family of Antonio Bocanegra and María Luz Dominguez bought the land from Narváez in 1835. They named it after their patron saint, Rodrigo de Cordova, who fought against Spanish domination in Mexico during the War of Independence. The rancho was used for sheep and cattle farming until the mid-19th century, when it became a railhead for goods arriving from pioneer towns such as Santa Clara and Sacramento. In 1896, Cordova was incorporated as a city and has since grown into one of Northern California's largest cities with a population of over 120,000 people.
