Poway is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 33,890 at the 2010 census. Poway's downtown is home to the Poway Municipal Water District and many of the city's cultural attractions are located in its park-like setting.The first Europeans to visit what is now Poway were Spanish traders under the leadership of Captain Gaspar de Portolà on October 15, 1769. In 1821, MexicanCaptain Mateo Cárdenas founded a mission called Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Our Lady of Hope) in what is now Poway. After Mexico achieved independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico began to claim parts of Alta California as part of their territory including San Diego County and Poway was included within that claimed area. In 1836, when Mexico lost control over Alta California following Anglo-Mexican war, Juan Bautista Alvarado became governor of Mexican San Diego County and decided to return all unclaimed land back to Mexicans. On March 2nd 1836 Alvarado ordered the incorporation of Powaya into Mexican San Diego County as part of that decision In 1850 Western Pacific Railroad founder George Hearst established his ranch east of present day town center while he awaited completion of his transcontinental railroad between Oakland and Sacramento which eventually came through here. Hearst named his ranch Rancho Santa Fe after his old family ranch near Las Vegas Nevada where they had been living since around 1800 Poway started as an agricultural community with 4 small farms scattered around present day town center and along creek beds that emptied into Mission Valley northward whence much water was drawn for irrigation purposes until about 1925 when electric power arrived making agriculture less necessary; however water usage continues unabated despite efforts by local residents to capture rainwater during El Niño events This agricultural community rapidly evolved into one with commercial streetscape development beginning about 1925; this commercial development continued until about 1990 when it transitioned into residential use primarily because there was insufficient communitywide parking capacity for ever increasing numbers of people who were increasingly commuting into central downtowns such as Encinitas or Carlsbad The result has been an increase in vehicular traffic on arterial streets leading up to downtown; increased noise levels from factories/apartments along Sawgrass Avenue; streetlights getting tired late at night;[1] general deterioration in infrastructure due largely to deferred maintenance projects funded by those same taxpayers who have seen their taxesumentary values decrease sharply over time

Poway is a small town in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 25,191 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of Mission Valley and is named after Rancho San Angelo, which was homesteaded by Portuguese settlers in 1769. Poway became an incorporated city in 1907. Poway's history can be traced back to 1821 when José María Narváez and his party of Californios discovered gold near what is now Poway Mesa. In 1835, Juan Bautista Alvarado granted Rancho San Angelo to Mexican nationals Francisco Alcalde and Ramón Castro for $5,000. This ranch passed through hands until it was given to José Ignacio Ynárez in 1854 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena as part of a land grant called Los Nietos Viejo (New Old Hundred). In 1856–57 David Hart first built a small adobe house on what is now North Main Street in Poway. The first post office opened in this location on November 15th, 1856 under the name of El Cajon de la Mesa (the Mesa Post Office). On January 1st, 1860 the name changed to Poway after Juana Mendiola Ortiz moved from Coyote Wells about 10 miles east to buy some property hereabouts known as La Encinas Creek. Another move followed two years later when Linares family bought lands south of present-day Market Street from Alcalde for $2,500 plus 160 acres (6 hectares) of woodland orchard/gardener’s field which they titled “Poway Estate”; this area became known as Park Avenue today. The early years were difficult for Poway because there were no roads or water supplies available nearby other than surface trails that went through chaparral and oak woodlands along the creek bed; therefore many houses were built without any foundation or with only masonry walls around them due to lack of other resources available at that time. A few brave souls among these pioneer farmers began raising crops such as wheat and oats while others constructed Adobe Walls out of logs taken from local cedar trees just north of La Encinas Creek where much later golf courses would be built adjacent to it; some old Adobe Walls still remain within walking distance today if you know where to look! One result directly attributable to these early efforts was that by 1861: "more than half the citizens...were men who had come either from Mexico or California". One hundred years later nearly all current residents are descended from those original pioneers who came before 1930 when then-City Manager Don Engelbart organized annexation into Poways city limits - creating what we now know as downtown Poways business district including most notably Qualcomm Stadium situated atop Mohawk Hill overlooking portionsOWeekly industrial areas extending into eastern Oceanside
