Poway, California, is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 801 at the 2010 census. It is located on the county's southeastern coast and was founded in 1876 as an agricultural town named after Poway Lake. The first target holders were built in Poway by local farmers to shoot birds for fun. Poway Municipal Airport opened in 1946 and served as the primary airport for Poway until 1984 when San Diego County took over operation of the airport. In 1951, the San Diego Air Museum was established adjacent to City Hall and serves as a museum today about aviation history in Southern California. Bagshot Toy Company manufactured targets from 1902-1969 at their facility on Indian Hill Road which also housed a small army surplus store during World War II. The company closed its doors in 1969 but continued to produce targets until it ceased production in 1992 due to declining demand for their products statewide and locally within San Diego County only; however, some bagshot targets still remain online today (e.g., www.targetsupplier2u.com)

Mexicans began arriving by wagon trains through Mission Valley into San Diego County in large numbers after Mexican independence arrived via US war effort; many were employed on new irrigated land developments throughout Southern California and developed intense political power due to this dual identity. In 1912 a portion of Poway annexed to neighbouring Riverside while another annexation took place in 1952 which created today’s City of Pomona
