At this point, Chihuahua began being called Poway because it had been divided among these different families back then. In 1923, when Poway became part of Imperial County (later Riverside County), it became one of the largest towns within that county by population. At this time, there were about 50 businesses in Poway with an estimated population of over 1,000 people! Today, PowAY has a population of only around 100 people but it still boasts some amazing businesses such as Apple Inc., Costco Wholesale Corporation,[1] Qualcomm Incorporated,[2] Giant Eagle Retail Holdings,[3], Nintendo Co., Ltd.[4], Microsoft,[5],[6],[7] etcetera! During World War II, Poway served as an Army post with ammunition storage capacity at nearby Point Loma before being decommissioned in 1945 and becoming available for civilian use again after the war. In 1968 POWAY became home to Chico State University when that institution moved from Delano Heights into an area then known as Dana Point Park East cafeteria complex on Second Street between Stockton Boulevard and Avenida del Norte (now I-15).
