By 1928, when Interstate 10 was built through central Baja California, Poway had become one of the most important cities along that highway. During World War II, Poway played host to military installations including Fort Stanton and Camp Kearny; both were used for training troops during World War II. After the war ended, POWAY resumed its role as an agricultural center with storage facilities for food supplies brought in from across America during reconstruction efforts following the war.

As these parcels grew larger they were sold off with little care for water rights or infrastructure; however over time some developers began investing in water systems and began landscaping their properties with palms and other irrigated plants .
