Poway's history dates back to 1846 when it was part of Mexican land grants Rancho Rinconada and Rancho Monterey. The first Anglo settlers arrived in what is now Poway in 1892, and by 1912 the city had a population of 682 people. In 1911, Poway became an incorporated town. In 1958, it adopted its current name of Poway City. In 1969, the city annexed the unincorporated communities of La Mesa and Mission Viejo. Poway is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 71,383 at the 2010 census. Poway is located on the eastern shore of San Diego Bay and includes almost all of the unincorporated communities of Mission Viejo and La Jolla. It is also bordered by Torrance to the east and Solana Beach to the west. On its south side it borders Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The first people to live in what is now Poway were Chumash Indians who came from central California overland in small groups during this time period. The first permanent settler was Manuel Nieto, who arrived in 1847. By 1870 there were 137 residents living in Poway proper with an average household size of 3.4 persons per household. However, due to waves of immigration starting around 1880, Poway's population reached 309 by 1897 but dipped below 200 again until 1906 when it topped out at 226 residents before declining back down to 201 by 1910. In 1907 Mexican American José Ortiz founded Ortegaville while working as a laborer for local citrus grower Fernando Carrillo on El Cajon Peninsula adjacent to present day Powayshore Drive and Boulevard de la Paz which ran along McCulloch Avenue between Ortegaville Road (now Harbor Drive) and present day Airport Way SW). Carrillo had imported two monocultures of temperate fruit trees from Mexico City that he named "Ortiz" after his friend José Ortiz – one male and one female – which grew well enough for him to sell fruit direct from his nursery near Interstate 5 exit 133B about north of then known as "El Cajon". After four years Ortiz sold the nursery shares back to Carrillo for $2,000 cash plus interest; an event considered such a success that Carrillo decided he would establish himself permanently within the city limits instead of moving elsewhere each year seeking new landowner opportunities On October 16th 1915 Alfredo Ramosena organized a meeting at Municipal Auditorium Convention Hall called "The First Filipino Local Board Game" with representatives from various Filipino organizations including Alabang Mambalam (the precursor organization today known as Liga ng mga Akademik ng Pilipinas), Nacionalista Party (now Partido Demokratiko Republika para sa Hindustan), Philippine Constabulary Force under Colonel Rafael Luna y Guevarra (who later became president Ramon Magsaysay), United Farm Workers/United Auto Workers-America Branch #3 Committee (later known as AFL-CIO) among others where Ramosena proposed creating an all-Filipino political party dubbed Partido Filipino Liberal or PFLA with membership open only toFilipinos born overseas or naturalized citizens thereof since “No man can be elected President without being a member [of] either our party or our association” He further explained: “We wanted Our countrymen abroad not only because they are intelligent but also because we want them here so that when we go into government they will know how things are done here in America” With these thoughts driving behind him Ramosena formed Bilibid ng Pilipinas Incorporated on December 7th 1915 with six incorporations ranging from single men up to 400 individuals altogether making up its board members made up mostly Filipinos living outside Manila including prominent businessmen like Ricardo Montilla (Governor Emilio Aguinaldo’s uncle) amongst others In 1916 PFLA nominated their second president Faustino Peña but no action was taken upon nomination until 1917 when Aguinaldo appointed Peña Vice President effective January 1st 1917 after rebels sacked Executive Mansion Kilbourn Street early January 1917 sparking Uprising against Spanish rule In 1918 following Japan occupation Philippines gained independent statehood becoming Republic Of Luzon Namely Philippines

Despite these successes, however, over time Poway began to experience erosion from population density and economic stagnation; nevertheless it continues to be an important cultural community withinSanDiego County today.
