The cities of Santa Clara and San Jose have also had their own Shooting Ranges for many years. The first shooting range was opened in 1882 in Santa Clara. It was a small adobe building on County Road C near what is now Pacific Avenue. The first modern shooting range was built in 1923 by Mr. Harry Kapp and Mrs. Elsie Brown at an old mill on present day 3rd Street and First Avenue in San Jose. Port Hueneme is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It is located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean and is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Port Hueneme were Spanish missionaries who arrived in 1795. The mission was abandoned by 1810 and for many years it was uninhabited. In 1846, American Commodore John D. Sloat decided to build a shipyard here and named it after himself - Commodore John D. Sloat's Wharf (or "Hueneme"). In 1851, San Francisco-born entrepreneur Pierre L'Enfant designed and built an elegant new town center - Plaza de los Deportes (later Plazuela). This became known as Port Hueneme because of its location near the old wharfage buildings used by American sailors coming into port. In 1886, businessman George Meade opened his own grocery store at 5th Street and Harbor Drive which soon became one of the largest stores in town with a store room for 100 customers and up to eight employees inside and outside. By 1890, Meade had two stores adjacent to each other on First Street; one with a bakery on top that could serve 280 people per day; another with 23 apartments upstairs that were rented out as living quarters or as bedroom suites for workers during their off hours while they shopped at Meade's stores or went to church services nearby. During World War II, many men from inland regions served in Naval Reserve battalions based out of Southern California naval yards such as San Pedro Naval Shipyard located just east of downtown Port Hueneme; these sailors would often spend nightshift ashore at various local bars/restaurants before departing for their next assignment early morning when most Naval yards closed down for wartime inactive status later that day! After World War II ended in 1945, Ports Huanemme business grew quickly again due especially to military surplus goods brought over aboard U S Navy ships visiting our coast during this time period like tanks, aircraft carriers and amphibious vehicles being unloaded onto our dockside sites bringing continue economic growth not only locally but also across what are now Riverside County mainland California thanks ingovernment policies supportive of coastal communities through public works funds which encouraged denser development along waterfronts providing access commuter rail service right into downtown LA thereby nurturing today's city government infrastructure including four high-speed bus lines: #1 Orange Line 1st St./Alameda St., #2 Costa Mesa Line 2nd Ave./Rancho Cucamonga Blvd., #3 Santa Ana Line 3rd Ave./Old Town Orange

In 1887, Pedro Carrera established a whaling business at what is now known as Point Conception. The business thrived until 1911 when a typhoon destroyed the docks and harbor. The city of Port Hueneme began to grow rapidly after World War II because of its proximity to Los Angeles and its position on the Pacific Coast Highway. The arrival of Interstate 5 in 1957 increased traffic and prompted the development of new businesses and homes in the city center. In 1968, Port Hueneme became an international port for oil tankers with the opening of Terminal 3 on Harbor Boulevard. Today, Port Hueneme is one of America's most important shipping ports with a gross marine Tonnage (GMT) volume greater than that handled by Long Beach or Shanghai
The first Europeans to come to the area were Spanish traders in the late 1600s. The first permanent European settlement was made on Port Hueneme by Franciscan missionaries in 1769. In 1821, the United States of America acquired California from Spain and established it as a territory. The port at Hueneme was used for goods transported between San Francisco and Sacramento before becoming a commercial center after the completion of the Central Pacific Railroad in 1868.
