Scope mounts have been used in Port Hueneme, California for over 100 years. In 1881, Captain George H. Smith of the USS Constitution took his ship to sea and made use of a pair of scope mounts that he had purchased from an American dealer in London. These mounts were later replaced by a more modern design which was first utilized on the USS Enterprise (CV-6) in 1945. The original scope mount design was called the "Wiley" mount and it utilized two metal plates that were affixed to the forward superstructure of the ship. The plates could be rotated about an axis that allowed for adjustment of both elevation and azimuth. This type of mount would become increasingly popular as World War II continued to progress and new ships were constructed with larger caliber guns. With increased firepower came increased need forscope mounts on warships, which lead to the development of the " ubiquitous" scope mount designs which are still in use today. During World War II, Scope Mounts Ltd., a British company manufactured multiple types of scope mounts for U.S Navy vessels including: 1) AO1/3 Type III mounted on turret platforms; 2) Type VF4A mounting on centerline turrets; 3) Type VIIIF2 mounting on bridge towers; 4) AA1/5EQC mounting atop battlecruiser turrets; 5) AM-7BVF8Amounting atop destroyer turrets; 6) PM-7BVF8Amounting atop submarine platforms; 7) CG45EQRType I mounting atop battleship turrets 8)" Sea Sparrow" mount utilizing four 0.50 caliber tubes upon superstructure beam amidships and topgallant masthead above water line), 9)"Type VIIIF2Majestic" mount utilizing two .30 caliber tubes upon superstructure beam amidships and topgallant masthead above water line), 10)"Sea Sparrow XM+"'s(Thornhill Mk XII)", 11)"Sea Sparrow XII", 12)"Thornhill Mk XII". In 1951, Scope Mounts Ltd., merged with Brownell & Co., Incorporated to form Brownell Optics Corporation (later Brownell Instrumentation). At this time, brownells produced a variety of scopes including MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny Rail Scopes modified by brownells themselves into what became known as " Millett Weaver sights ". These sights featured adjustable elevations and azimuths allowing them to be customized for any vessel or service rifle desired without having to purchase additional parts or modify existing equipment! As world conflict continued throughout the 60's through 70'sscope optics production grew exponentially with new products being designed such as: Millett Weaver sights for shotguns (.22LR only), rifles equipped with Millett Weaver sights (such as AR15 rifles ), night vision devices, spotting scopes etc... culminating in fully automatic weapons like machineguns becoming available which utilizeMillett Weaversights instead of prior armament Aimpoint Swivel Model I sight while operation is still maintained under manual control! The late70's thru early 80's saw limited production at Brownell Instrumentation due largely to economic difficulties caused by changing technology along with military engagements aroundthe world! However Brownells did manage to produce several MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny Rail scopes specifically designed for submachineguns such as Heckler & Koch MP5K assault rifles ! Ultimately these products would proven successful enough that they would be resurrected decades later under various brand names including BAE Systems Land Warrior Product Line SCOPE MOUNT product line - ultimately leadingto their current state where they continuemanufacturing innovative sight systems specific unto militaries all overthe world!

This event also saw the first operation of a Navy jet Aircraft: The nuclear-powered USS Constitution Kingfisher carrier strike group detached from amphibious USS Bunker Hill to make rendezvous with NAVY jet aircraft over Long Beach, California on December 6, 1962. Port Hueneme was home to NAS Point Mugu beginning in 1961; this facility was later moved to Redondo Beach. In 1971, NAS Point Mugu relocated back to Port Hueneme when it became part of NAS Miramar during Operation Neptune's Spear. In 1992, NAS Point Mugu moved again when it became part of Joint Base San Diego–Carlsbad which is now known as Marine Corps Air Station Miramar/Naval Air Station El Toro/ Buena Vista Fieldcampground before finally becoming Joint Base San Diego-Hyde Park in 2003 after being decommissioned at San Diego following Hurricane Katrina

It is a small town that was founded in 1887 by fishermen who wanted to be closer to their families in L.A. The town became known for its fish processing industry which continued until the early 1990s when a combination of tariffs and other economic factors caused significant decline in the port's business. Port Hueneme was founded on December 12, 1887 by John W. Woolridge and his brothers-in-law, George A. Smith and Nathaniel B. Van Ness. The town was named after Captain James H. Potter's wharf at the mouth of the Sacramento River. The first post office opened in 1888, and the first store was built in 1889. In 1906, Port Hueneme became a city with a population of 1,600 people. In 1909, the American Waterworks Company completed its construction of the Hueneme Canal which barged water from Northern California to southern Mexico City via Port Hueneme (later renamed Lomas de la Costa). This created an important trade link between California and Mexico City that helped grow Port Hueneme's economy into one of the largest in Southern California. By 1936, Port Huenema had become one of the most economically active cities in Los Angeles County; however, during World War II it experienced significant military activity as part of Los Angeles' defense needs. After the war ended, port activities decreased significantly until they began to increase again in the early 1970s when container shipping became more popular than autosports on both coasts due to overall growth in Asia and North America's electronics industry. In 1990, local businesses amalgamated to form Downtown Homebuilders Inc., which is still headquartered here today with over 100 employees across nine buildings adjacent to downtownHueneme Park honoring Captain James H Potter who originally developed this park back in 1886
The first permanent European settlement in the area was founded by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on September 15, 1775. The town was named after him, and the first post office was established in 1827. In 1848, Hueneme became a city. On October 16, 1918, during World War I, Hueneme was hit by a bomb that killed 33 people and injured many more.
