In the early 1800s, Port Hueneme was a small town in southern California. The area now known as Port Hueneme was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. By 1851, the town had grown to include a population of around 500 people. In 1862,Port Hueneme joined the newly created city of Ventura and soon became one of its most important commercial and political centres. The port played an important role in both World Wars, with ships coming and going from the port bringing goods to countries all over the world. The port also hosted various airfields during World War II, including Santa Ana Airport. Since the 1990s, however, Port Hueneme has seen a growth in alternative industries such as software development and biotechnology. In recent years, it has become home to several high-tech companies such as Broadcom and Intel Corporation.
Port Hueneme, California is a city located in Ventura County, California. The population was 92,741 at the 2010 census. The name of the city comes from Spanish port de hueneme meaning "Haven of the Huenemes" because it used to be an important seaport on the Los Angeles River. The first European settlers in what is now Port Hueneme arrived during 1847 and made their home near present-day Winnetka Avenue and Tasman Drive. In 1853, a group of Mexican American entrepreneurs established a flour mill in what is now downtown Port Hueneme. In 1865, local builders erected a two-story schoolhouse on Seventh Street and Second Avenue which still stands today as part of the City Hall complex. By 1870, there were 11 businesses in town and the population had reached 514. Two years later, however, fire destroyed most of downtown and within three years not only had business leaders come up with plans for rebuilding but also new homes had been built for many of those who left behind (the old buildings are still standing). The early 20th century was marked by some large changes for Port Hueneme. On October 15th 1913 – just one year after its incorporation as a city –Hueneme residents voted to switch their municipal government from Republican to Democratic control following months of protesting by Republicans led by Mayor William Barker (1862–1929). After several more elections during this time period that saw no change until 1923 when Republican Mayor John Leland became mayor after winning an election against then-Acting City Manager Harry Kapp (1900–1923). It wasn’t until 1928 when Democrat George Wernham took office that Port Huenume finally gained its first female mayor when Mrs. Nora Atherton won election against incumbent Republican Mayor Luther Henderschel (1920–28). One major force that helped shape how Port Hueneme evolved over time was its growing population of Latinos who soon began making up much of both the workforce and local political representation. This demographic shift quickly changed what had once been an agricultural town into one full of commerce and industry – key players in both social movements such as labor unions and progressive politics throughout much of the 1930s and 1940s; things didn’t stop changing even after World War II ended withPort Huenume becoming part of newly created Ventura County along with other municipalities including Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks

The area around Port Hueneme became heavily populated with Europeans after California gained statehood in 1850. In 1861, Captain John Davenport built the first permanent European-owned residence here when he purchased a land grant from Mexico for $4,000 (). After years of development work began on what would become Port Hueneme proper in 1871 when James Sweeny donated 365 acres (151 hectares) to be developed into a port town with wharfage and other facilities. dredging started soon after to improve access to water supplies necessary for shipbuilding and fishing operations; at that time there were only three shallowdraft vessels capable of working up point Conception Bay. The original town site included 136 blocks (); today it covers an area of 6 square miles (15 square kilometers). The original town had one street grid; today it has been divided into several areas based upon trade or industry interests within its boundaries: Harbor Freight District No 1A-F; Jordan Processing; Southern California Edison Company’s Icelco Ranch Land & Water Development Co.; Finally “the new townsite” which includes much of downtown Hueneme today formed from portions of vecinity districts 2B-D annexed from neighboring Cities Of Industry: El Mirador/Plymouth/Lopez, Carpinteria/Montebello/Norwalk Born out of this effort was what we now call "the Ports." Today's Ports span more than 50 years - back when our predecessors worked diligently to build what would later become world renowned ports! With nearly 1 million passengers arriving annually through official channels during that time period - both ashore and afloat - "Ports" quickly became synonymous with quality trade goods made right here at home by American workers! From humble beginnings as small refineries handling local goods until becoming one of America's most significant seaports serving entire Western US regions during World War II...the story may never be written but it has already been told many times too often!
In the early 1800s, the area around Port Hueneme was a busy port. The shipbuilding industry was very important in this time and many ships were built here. In 1847, the town of Port Hueneme was founded on land that had been donated by Juan Bautista de Anza. The town thrived for a few years but then died out because of its close proximity to Mexico City. It wasn't until after Mexican independence was proclaimed in 1848 that the town started to grow again. By 1850, it had reached its peak and many people from all over came to live there. It wasn't until 1862 when a fire destroyed much of what remained of the town, causing it to die back down again.
