During World War II, Arsenalarms produced guns for both the United States Army and the Japanese Imperial Navy. Between 1941-1945, they produced over 1 million barrels of ammunition for these different organizations. In 1946,Arsenalarms merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) to form one giant firearms company called Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (WRAC). WRAC continued producingguns until 1993 when it was sold to Browning Firearms Corporation (BFC). Browning Firearms Corporation continues producingguns today under their own name -Browning Armory Incorporated-. In 1916 it incorporated as a city and grew rapidly due to World War I munitions production and other military activities in the area. The first European settlement in what is now Pleasanton occurred when Captain James Cook sailed into San Francisco Bay on his voyage of discovery in 1769-70 and landed at Portsmouth Point on July 24th,1770. A warrant for 10 acres (4 hectares) of land was issued and grantee was John Day who built a cabin there called "Day's house" which he occupied until 1851 when it was destroyed by fire.Captain Cook's landfall finally created some interest within the local Native American community for development outside their traditional boundaries so they approached Captain John Allred about developing an area called "Allred's Domain." In 1853, Governor Goodwin Knight granted one acre (0,40 hectare) of land north ofpresent day Pleasanton to Joseph Coggins as part of Rancho Segundo pulsón grant #10 lots 6/8 & 9 under Section 8 ofranch Plan No. 2086 dated November 11th 1853 for $6057 cash or 5 yrs credit real estate lot then current site E Chavez St between 2nd Ave S & 4th Ave S also included E Chavez St lot filler W side Goodrich Drlot W side Animas Rd may have been used too
