The first gun targets in Pleasanton were a series of blacksmiths' tools at the corner of Main and Sutter Streets. In 1878, two guns were set up on the northwest corner of Main and Sutter Streets. The arsenal there was built in 1881 by Wm. Hargrave & Bros., a partnership including John Elder, James Fenton and others. The first rifle target in Pleasanton was a three-gun match that was held at the archery range on Beale Street in 1885. It consisted of four rifles, each weighing about ninety pounds, with triggers that could be pulled back to fire twenty rounds per minute. In 1886, Captain George Waddell opened an armory on First Street between Masonic Temple Road and Donner Avenue for use by the militia forces of San Francisco County. He also purchased land east of Donner Avenue for the purpose of building an additional armory and Range School annexe containing machineguns, cannonballs, pistols and revolvers. This new armORY became known as "Pleasanton's Arsenal". In 1895 Colonel Charles Biddle donated land west of Donner Avenue to become a public park which included part of what is now downtown Pleasanton. This made it possible to erect more than one hundredGun TARGETS throughout town during World War I (1914-1918). Many people who lived near these targets remember being taught how to shoot them by their parents or other family members during those early years whentarget shooting was still something relatively new
Pleasanton, California is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 238 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the ten cities in Contra Costa County by population. Pleasanton is named after Joseph Pleasant and his family's farmstead on Warm Springs Creek. The first post office in Pleasanton was established in 1855. In 1916, the City of Pleasanton annexed part of West Contra Costa and absorbed its residents, setting off a decades-long struggle between the two cities over who would have jurisdiction over what became known as "Pleasanton". In 1976, when both cities were merged into one government, Pleasanton took over all responsibilities for West Contra Costa and received its own police department and library system.

Pleasanton, California is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The population was 66,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Silicon Valley metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pleasanton were Jedediah Smith and his party in 1824, when they camped on the present site of Pleasanton after crossing the Great American Desert from Nevada. The name "Pleasanton" was given to this location by Captain George Haggerty who found a small stream there and named it for his much loved mother, Lady Jane Porter. A post office called Pleasanton was established in 1839, and remained in operation until 1860. When Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States in 1868, he decided to move the capital of America from Washington D.C.—the city then known as Philadelphia—to Chicago because that city had become too polluted and noisy for his liking. He also wanted to consolidate northern California's political power base so that it could counterbalance southern California's growing influence on national policy decisions during this time period. Grant selected San Francisco as the new capital due to its strategic location between two major railroads: The Central Pacific Railroad (CP) and The Southern Pacific Railroad (SP). This decision would later be reversed when San Francisco grew too populous and expensively built compared with other potential capitals such as New York or Boston; furthermore, Grant believed that larger cities offered more opportunities for corrupt politicians and businesspeople than smaller ones did. Grant persuaded Congress to appropriate $25 million dollars for building roads, bridges, schools and other infrastructure in order to support burgeoning urbanization throughout America during this time period; these efforts would later result in an unparalleled economic boom throughout most of Northern California during which Pleasanton played an important role both socially and economically. A rash of fires burned through portions of Northern Californian forests starting around 1850 due largely to dry fuel beetle infestations caused by over-application of fire retardants made products like dyes used then unavailable without fear of disease outbreaks among Native Americans living near these areas; however, some researchers believe that arson may have been involved as well since many early 20th century town records do not list any fires affecting people or property within their boundaries – something that would change following a large outbreak involving Reading Station (now Redwood City) back in 1906 which destroyed entire neighborhoods adjacent thereto including parts of neighboring Palo Alto). In 1865 John Foust constructed a sawmill at current day Redwood Canyon Boulevard just south of Mountain View Avenue making him oneof only five persons ever granted patents for industrial development within Calaveras County alone between 1861-1920 despite never having laid down any real physical product himself save for improvements on his farmhouse which still stands today - an event which has been chronicled variously both anecdotally & formally throughout numerous books & articles published about local history within recent decades although no definitive proof exists evidentiary basis supporting such claims.) In 1876 entrepreneur Anson Hildebrandt organized & ran oneofthe largest agricultural fairs ever held anywhere up until then under three different names namely "The Golden Spike," "Golden Gate International Exposition,"&"California Agricultural EXposition." This event showcased agricultural products from all over North America along with performances by popular artists like Willie Dixon & Charlie Patton amongst others set against beautiful rural backgrounds usually lasting several days each ending with revelry into early morning wherever located downtown where hotels were located Stagecoach Square today prior to traveling eastward along I-880 past Mount Diablo before arriving back at Santa Clara Street northwest eventually terminating at 12th Street northeast approximately opposite Citizens Bank Arena today - another event commonly remembered by residents primarily via posters seen all around town sporting similar slogans plastered nearby advertising various types OF food available FOR FREE from various sources inside & outside those buildings especially situated near Seventh Street west across Interstate Highway 80 north about 5 km southeast from Downtown Muncie / Indianapolis Airport)
Pleasanton was founded in 1857 by Captain John A. Pleasanton and his wife, Eliza Jane. The town was named for a pleasant field on the east side of the Sacramento River. In 1870, Pleasanton became the largest town in California when it merged with Redding to form Redding-Pleasanton. That same year, the first post office in California opened in Pleasanton. In 1878, the first electric light company was founded in California and Pleasanton became one of its original members. In 1886, an amusement park was built near present day Winchester Street and Park Avenue and it served as a major tourist attraction until 1923 when it closed due to financial problems. The following year, another amusement park was built just north of present day Elk Grove Avenue and called Valleyfair Park; however this too failed to profitability. In 1928, a golf course opened at Coyote Hills which became one of the most popular courses in Northern California.
