Pleasanton was founded in 1879 as a small town on Hwy. 12 near present-day Livermore. It became an incorporated city in 1903. In 1911 it annexed parts of Martinez which made it a conurbation with a population of over 100,000 people. Its economy has been based largely on agriculture since its founding until recent years when defense manufacturing has become dominant. The City Council moved from its original location at 11th Street and Independence Avenue in 1912 to what is now North Park Center Drive in order accommodate more growth within their boundaries while still maintaining close ties with their surrounding communities. Today Pleasanton continues to be one of Northern California's most vibrant cities thanks to its diverse cultural history as well as its continued commitment to quality education for all residents through its two universities- American River College and Diablo Valley Community College- along with numerous businesses that support downtown revitalization including Joe's Pizza & Donuts, Starbucks Coffee & Tea, ABC News Radio Station KQED-FM (106 FM), Sobeys Grocery Outlet Centers (Sobeys), Chinese takeout restaurants (WenZi & Fu Lei), FedEx Express Delivery Services (FORD) and several major retailers including Macy's Department Store and JCPenney(JCPenney).

Pleasanton is a town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 26,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Pleasanton is located on the east side of Livermore Valley and Euro-Theresian Plain. Pleasanton was founded in 1871 by brothers Amos and Nathan Weems as a small farmstead near Shasta Lake. By 1882, the Weems brothers had purchased some land west of their original farmstead and built a house there which they called "The Mansion". In 1888, John Sutter settled in what is now Pleasanton and became its first postmaster. He named it after his birthplace in Holland – Gelderland (now the Netherlands). In 1901, two brothers named Edward Hildebrandt opened a grocery store at 12th Street and Avenue R in downtown Pleasanton with $2 worth of supplies - much later becoming known as "Hildebrand's". They soon realized that they needed to build more stores if they were to keep up with local demand for goods. So they decided to move from their original location on 12th Street into an adjacent building on 14th Street which would serve as their corporate headquarters until 1935 when it burned down. In 1916 Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) established an electric services station behind Eastgate Mall in downtown Pleasanton which changed the cityscape forever. At that time, PG&E was the only provider of electricity in Contra Costa County. The company continues to operate today as part of Southern California Edison (SCE). After World War II ended and new technology arrived such as television sets and radios, people began streaming video content over computer networks these days we can call this era "Internet Age". ThisBringing about changes not just for businesses but also society at large because no one could control what people watch or how they watch it so business went down because now you can get anything you want without spending any money! People started traveling more because all types of entertainment were available online! In 1969 Alameda County voters passed Measure B creating BART District 2 including parts of Pleasanton including Pleasanton proper along with unincorporated areas east of Highway 237 within easy commuting distance by BART passengers who lived within 10 miles or less away from BART stations served by Caltrain/Nimitz Cutoff Service Line trains between Sacramento/San Jose International Airport and Emeryville/Oaklands International Airport
