Pleasanton is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 118,848 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern side of San Francisco Bay and is the administrative center for Contra Costa County. This has led to increased retail business along Interstate 880 commonly known as "The High Street" because of its high concentration of retailers near exits 16 (Highway 680) and 24 (I-880). Downtown redevelopment efforts are ongoing with plans to add more than 100 jobs over five years within an area bounded by University Avenue on the east side; railroad tracks running north/south just south of I-880; First Street westward from Highway 680; and Kaiser Drive southward from I-880
