Pleasant Hill is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 3,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Pleasant Hill was David Hickey in 1853. By 1860, there were 10 settlers living in the town. In 1884, two towns - East Pleasant Hills and West Pleasant Hills - were established within the present day boundaries of Pleasant Hill. The following year saw the opening of what would be known as "the world's first playground". In 1906, a post office was established in the town and remained open until 1939; during that time it was served by mail from Los Angeles. A store and garage were built on Main Street in 1915 and remain standing today as a property owner’s unattended business. During World War II, many residents participated in military service including serving as nurses and airmen with various unit names such as "The Grapes" or "The Finches". They also raised chickens for eggs which they sell to local farmers during agricultural fairs throughout the war years. A new elementary school opened its doors to students on October 1st 1947 with Mrs. Beaumont officiating at that special occasion. At this time there were only fifty students enrolled in grades one through four with eighteen boys and six girls attending grade five through seven along side Mr./Mrs./Dr./Ms./ infants being educated at home until it became possible for them to attend school starting November 15th 1946 pursuant to state authorization number ED 9055 (now CA SB 2242). Future Superintendent of Schools Driggs Christensen organized an assembly meeting on May 5th 1948 which resulted in approval awarding $4000 for land acquisition necessary for expanding boy’s play ground/cabinet room addition plus an extra lot needed for extention of existing driveway/street frontage etc . This project consisted of excavation of 30 feet deep rearward slope located southwest corner lot line extending northeasterly from east boundaryokiudge line then easterly 2 streets wide followed by erection of platform/frame house “Green Gables” now used by High School students as their “library” Sgt Price who commanded 7th Platoon USMC during WWII arrived May 11th 1948 having been orderedby General MacArthur himself to take chargeof all educational activities here incl social services herewith his staff including Mrs Howe director general physical education Miss Haygood music teacher Pilegar substitute teacher Mrs Kapp El Paso Pre-Kindergarten Classroom Teacher Mrs Bigham First Grade Teacher Mrs Olsen Second Grade Teacher

Pleasant Hill is a census-designated place in Kern County, California. The population was 5,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Bernardino metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by J.D. Power and Company Executives as a small town on the west side of Palmdale Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Lankershim Boulevard. The name "Pleasant Hill" comes from its location on Pleasant Valley Road, which ran through the center of town and provided access to good farmland on either side of the road. The first post office opened in 1888, and soon became known for its fairs, which were held every year along with other local events until 1925. In 1924, power companies merged into oneFinally after years of struggle by residents who wanted more independent control over their communities development plans - Pleasant Valley Rd., now called Lankershim Blvd., was finally widened to four lanes (two northbound and two southbound) with new residences built in what had been an agricultural area only minutes away from where people lived until then! In 1951, what had once been a rural community became home to many families commuting to work in downtown Los Angeles or other nearby cities. With Palo Alto becoming increasingly bedroom community-like during the early 1970s as businesses moved out of town for economic reasons (and jobs dried up), Pleasant Hill's days as an agricultural center came to an end around 1980; but it has continued to maintain some level of activity even today including various agriculture shows and related events throughout the year
Pleasant Hill was founded in 1847 by George and Julia Smith. The first post office was established in 1849. Pleasant Hill became a city in 1895.
