The town was founded by Henry Tejon in 1846 as a result of land grants from Governor Manuel Nieto de la Guerra. In 1853, Pleasant Hill became part of Contra Costa County when it was created from parts of El Cerrito and Dublintown Counties. By 1908, enrollment at Berkeley had reached 452 students and 24 staff members for the Department of Education run by Professor William Jameson (later installed as superintendent). However, before long Berkeley officials realized that they needed more space and decided to annex another piece of territory: Meadow Park which included much older undeveloped land east of Center Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets within blocks of their new campus site - all this annexation notwithstanding Mayor David Muller's efforts to keep Meadow Park open as an open-air nature reserve! On March 3rd 1912 voters passed a proposition creating Municipal Code section 128 which provided that "Pleasant hill shall be governed by a City Council consisting thereof composed not more than four members elected at large." A year later on April 15th 1913 council amended section 128 providing for five council members being elected at-large instead with one vote cast per seat - thus making it easier for councilors to get along regardless of party affiliation. One reason why this amendment may have been made was because then Mayor Arthur Jablonski desired increased financial support from his successor Driscoll through Measure H which would have funded improvements such as water lines and parks around town but which never got off the ground due largely to opposition from business interests led by Denny Baird (then head coach at Diablo Valley College). After World War II many people left Pleasant Hill for jobs in Northern California due to high unemployment rates following the war effort; consequently little development took place until around 1970 when new housing developments began popping up throughout Contra Costa County including Pleasant Hill itself becoming known as "the South Bay Village". However these developments generally lacked quality schools or other amenities typical in larger communities while also causing traffic congestion because they often included large amounts of parked cars behind their homes which caused environmental damage over time thanks to car exhausts overlapping nearby wetlands etcetera etcetera... On January 1st 2006 news broke that Google had chosen Oakland as their location for their second headquarters; immediately followed shortly thereafter by Google announcing plans for even more development near downtown Oakland making it likely that parking will become an issue once again in upcoming years given how much taller Google's buildings will get! Nevertheless despite some negative aspects about recent gentrification patterns within certain areas such as increased crime rates among poor/nonwhite residents etc., overall most people I spoke with seemed positive about current conditions both inside and outside their community...

Pleasant Hill is a small, unincorporated community in Kern County, California, United States. It is located on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley and is part of the Modesto metropolitan area. The population was 1,542 at the 2000 census. The first people to live in what is now Pleasant Hill were Mexican immigrants who arrived during the 1847 gold rush. By 1870, many American farmers had moved into the valley and began to tilled land that became Pleasant Hill. In 1881, two brothers named Hildebrandt bought some property north of town from an Indian chief for $2 per acre (1/4 dollar per foot). They named their farm "Hollow Grove" after a grove of trees near their home in Germany where they had spent their summers as children. In 1892, Harry Calkins purchased 640 acres (253 hectares) southeast of town from Jens Jensen for $15 per acre (0.80 dollar per foot). He started cultivating fruit orchards and grain crops and built a house/store on his new land which he called "Rancho Calkins". Shortly thereafter he married Ida Matson and they founded a convent known as Our Lady's Convent on the property which remain today as a residential landmark. In 1915 Pleasant Hill was annexed by Modesto; however, it retained its own government including fire protection and schools until 1924 when it became part of the larger city proper through annexation again by Modesto. The post office at Pleasant Hill opened in 1890; it continued operation until it was discontinued in 1925 due to lack of customers. The only occupant of the building until 1930 was Mrs. Lillian Bemis who rented it out to various individuals for summer vacation purposes until she sold it to Mr./Ms./Dr.(unknown) in 1933 who operated it as an agricultural store before selling it to Mrs.(unknown) again in 1938 who operated it as an ice cream parlor before moving out when World War II began and becoming owner(s) thereof(?).
